Jeff Bezos wealth exceeds $171 billion during pandemic
In the summer of 2019, Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie Bezos completed their divorce. The soon to be ex-CEO of Amazon had been married to Mrs Bezos since 1993, long before Mr Bezos made his billions.
However, in January, 2019, the pair released a statement telling the world of their impending divorce.
The joint statement said: “We want to make people aware of a development in our lives.
“After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.
“We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures.”
The divorce would become the most expensive in history, with Mr Bezos handing over a large chunk of his fortune to Mackenzie.

How much did Mackenzie Bezos get from the divorce?
Prior to the divorce, Mr Bezos was easily the richest person in the world.
Amazon shares were flying high, and Mr Bezos had a reported wealth of $137billion (£107billion).
However, in the separation trial, the Judge awarded a four percent stake of Amazon to Mackenzie.
This small share was worth a staggering $38bn (£29bn), drastically reducing Mr Bezos’ wealth – although he was hardly facing financial difficulty.
