Jamie Oliver’s wife Jools reveals plans to renew vows with the chef

Jamie Oliver’s wife Jools reveals plans to renew vows with the embattled chef on their 20th wedding anniversary… as she insists they’re ‘shattered’ and need a break after restaurant closures

Jamie Oliver’s wife Jools has revealed that she and her husband are planning to renew their vows in a barefoot ceremony to mark their 20th wedding anniversary.

In an interview with Red magazine, the mother-of-five, 44, also shared that she and embattled chef Jamie, also 44, are looking forward to taking some time out, after financial hardships forced him to close 22 of his restaurants.

Of the ceremony, Jools said: ‘Next year, we’ll have been married 20 years, and we’re going to get married again, but do things differently – outside and barefoot.

Looking back on their first trip down the aisle, she recalled: ‘Our first dance was to Dusty Springfield’s I Only Want To Be With You, but Jamie doesn’t like dancing, so I threw him off. I was in my element!’

However, before any preparations for celebrations begin, the couple are planning to escape to the picturesque shores of Cornwall for a much-needed break, following Jamie’s tough business year, which left 1,000 of his employees out of work.

‘Everyone looks shattered and we all need a break,’ Jools told Red. ‘All I wanted was children and to get stuck into home life. I was quite true to myself in that way.’

In 2017, Jools offered fans an insight into the early years of her relationship with the TV cook by posting an image of a stack of airmail love letters written to her by Jamie during a three-month work trip she took to Japan at the age of 17.

She wrote: ‘When I was 17 I worked in Tokyo for 3 months and every single day Jamie sent me a letter or a fax with out fail! These are only half of them.

‘I started reading them and it brought back Just the best and happiest memories xxx missing u. xxx

She added: ‘P.s the little bottle of Poison perfume is 25 years old and the first perfume he ever brought me at Liverpool Street Station where we met after his collage and my work!! the smell has never faded! X’  (sic)

Jools’ post comes shortly after her husband was forced to announce the closure of 22 of his 25 Jamie’s Italian restaurants and cut 1,000 jobs, after his business went into administration.

The decision to put the business into administration comes after Jamie ploughed £12.7million of his own money into his business in 2017 after being given only two hours to save the chain.

The latest accounts for the celebrity chef’s main restaurant business, Jamie’s Italian Limited, show the company made a loss of more than £29million on a turnover of £100million in 2017.

Taking to Twitter to announce the devastating news Jamie wrote: ‘I’m devastated that our much-loved UK restaurants have gone into administration.

‘I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all of the people who have put their hearts and souls into this business over the years.’
