Chef James Martin, 48, showcases his recipes on his self-titled show as well as This Morning on a weekly basis. Speaking today, he quipped he feared others might encroach on his “food patch”. Loose Women panellist Frankie Bridge, 32, mentioned his versatility of skills, which include cooking and guitar playing, on the show.

The cook joked he needed to find another skill in case he has to “disappear” from the cooking world.

He said: “I have done a little bit of everything to be honest, Strictly [Come Dancing] as well.

“Now what we find is, certain people are now wanting to be chefs, so they’re all coming onto my patch, you see.

“I needed another skill to be able to disappear off if I suddenly get kicked off my food patch.”

Also on the show, Nadia Sawalha branded James “grumpy” and asked why he had this persona on TV.

Seeming taken aback by the comment, he explained it may be down to his early morning starts at 4am.

He added: “When you’ve got a restaurant through these times, it’s not the easiest thing at the moment, is it really?

“Some of the questions they ask you [on This Morning] are a bit random, they go off piste a little bit.”

James grew popular on TV when he fronted Saturday Kitchen on BBC from 2006 until 2016.

A year later, he began hosting Saturday Morning with James Martin on ITV.

He is also a regular chef on This Morning.

James stepped away from his comfort zone in 2005 when he competed in Strictly.
