Heavily pregnant Rebekah Vardy ‘inconsolable’ after spat with Coleen Rooney

The war of the WAGs was mired in mystery last night as Rebekah Vardy dismissed claims she had leaked stories about Coleen Rooney.

Rebekah, 37, wife of £120,000-a-week Leicester City striker Jamie, was said to be inconsolable over the claims and determined to prove her innocence.

She called Coleen – who she became friends with after they travelled with England for Euro 2016 – to ask why she had not put the claims to her in person.

A pal of Rebekah, seven months pregnant with her fifth child, said: “She called Coleen and said, ‘What’s this, why didn’t you just call me?’”

Rebekah later told Coleen in a furious post online: “As I have just said to you on the phone, I wish you had called me if you thought this.

“I never speak to anyone about you as various journalists who have asked me to over the years can vouch for. If you thought this was happening you could have told me and I could have changed my passwords to see if it stopped.

“Over the years various people have had access to my Insta. I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you? I liked you a lot Coleen and I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant.

“I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this. You should have called me the first time this happened.”

Rebekah’s camp were so outraged that they even consulted lawyers with a view to taking legal action. The friend added: “They thought about sending a letter for libel but Becky doesn’t want to do that.

“Obviously the girl is upset and must genuinely thinks it’s Rebekah’s doing. She just wants it all to go away.”

Rebekah’s legal team have launched a forensic IT investigation to try to prove her innocence. The pal said: “Over the last few years a lot of people have had access to her social media account. They’re looking into everything.”

Friends also fear for Rebekah’s state of mind, saying she is being trolled and has been reduced to tears on holiday. The pal added: “She rarely cries, if at all…She’s a tough character.

“But she’s inconsolable. She’s crying her eyes out and is heavily pregnant. Coleen knew Becky and was friendly with her and she didn’t know there were any issues. Now she’s getting relentlessly trolled and is just beside herself.”

The pal even suggested Coleen’s camp could have their own reasons for going public with the row. They said: “Becky and Jamie are always happy. There is no scandal with their marriage.

“Maybe to Coleen’s camp, they were overshadowing them and becoming a bigger brand and that’s why this has been so public.”

A friend of Coleen’s last night said she, too, had been left “inconsolable…not least because it’s turned out to be one of her friends who has been informing the press of her private moments”.

The friend added: “She has had to cope with this throughout pregnancies and household turmoil.”

They also denied it was part of any plan by Coleen’s camp to overshadow the Vardys and be a bigger brand, adding: “Coleen has never been interested in being a brand, that’s nonsense.” A spokesman for Coleen said: “It is irrefutable that the leaks came from one account, and one account only.”

Coleen, 33, had accused Rebekah after using a process of elimination to find who was passing information from her private Instagram to a newspaper. The mum-of-four, wife of former England captain Wayne, said she spent five months working it out by blocking everyone’s account but Rebekah’s.

She said she watched as a series of fake stories she had planted on her account appeared in the newspaper.

And she took screen shots showing the only account to have viewed her original posts was Rebekah’s.

In an online statement yesterday, Coleen said: “After a long time of trying to figure out who it could be, for various reasons, I had a suspicion. To try and prove this, I came up with an idea. I blocked everyone from viewing my Instagram stories except one account.

“Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into the newspaper. And you know what, they did!
