Director Guy Ritchie and actor Hugh Grant have re-created a photo showing the pair’s fathers who were stationed in the same military regiment 65 years ago.

The two men, Captain John Ritchie and Captain James Grant, were stationed in Singapore as part of the Scottish Highlanders.

Amazingly, the grandfather of production assistant Rory Gibb on the pair’s new film The Gentlemen was also in the decades-old snap and so Guy, 51 and Hugh, 59, re-created it.

They posed alongside a star-struck Rory in the new photo, with all three baring a striking resemblance to their relatives.

Guy also shared a third photo of his grandfather, Major Stewart Ritchie, who was killed in France in 1940 during the Second World War in an Instagram post to mark Remembrance Sunday.

He wrote in a caption alongside the three images: ‘This first picture was taken 65 years ago in Singapore where my dad — Captain John Ritchie — and Hugh Grant’s dad —Captain James Grant — were stationed in the same regiment, the Seaforth Highlanders.

‘The second picture — taken on a film set in London 65 years later, has one grandson and two sons recreating that original image.

Incredible: Guy also shared a third photo of his grandfather, Major Stewart Ritchie, who was killed in France in 1940 during the Second World War

Family: Guy shared the photos on his Instagram page to mark Remembrance Sunday

‘We’d discovered by co-incidence that Rory Gibb, our Production Assistant on the film‘s grandad was in that same original picture. You can see the resemblance.

‘The third image is of my dad and grandad. My granddad, Major Stewart Ritchie, died in 1940 in France in WW2.

He added: ‘Spare a thought today for the men and women in uniform who have fallen in defence and service of others. #RemembranceDay #RemembranceSunday’

Guy’s latest film, which will be released in early 2020, and sees Hugh star alongside Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Colin Farrell.

Gangster’s paradise: Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery also stars in the new film

The plot centers around a drug lord who tries to sell off his highly profitable marijuana empire to a dynasty of billionaires.

Perhaps most surprising about the recently released trailer for Guy’s film are Michelle Dockery and Hugh.

The former has traded in her reputation as the aristocratic Lady Mary from Downton Abbey, instead portraying a glamorous cockney; while the latter has shed his typical role as a foppish Englishman to play a slick wheeler-dealer.

The Gentlemen hits cinemas in January 2020.

Storyline: The plot centers around a drug lord (pictured: Matthew McConaughey)

On the run? Mickey Pearson’ [McConaughey], is the drug lord at the centre of the story, which has been penned as well as directed by Ritchie
