Gus Kenworthy cut from Philipp Plein runway show at the last minute

Gus Kenworthy may be an Olympic champion on the slopes, but he will have to wait a little longer to make his runway debut.

The skier, 26, announced on Instagram on Saturday that he was on the cusp of adding “model” to his résumé, only to be cut from the Philipp Plein show at the last minute.

“I was supposed to walk a Milan Fashion Week runway yesterday. Two hours before the show started they cut me from it. Sooo basically I just flew 4,000 miles to eat pizza. ???,” he captioned a picture of himself chowing down on a slice.

Plein is famous for courting controversy — and for star-studded productions that often run more than two hours late. At Friday’s show, which was a tribute to Michael Jackson, Chris Brown performed while Winnie Harlow and Cardi B’s sister, Hennessy Carolina, walked the runway along with her girlfriend Michelle Diaz.

Two days before the runway blowout, Kenworthy posted a picture from the plane announcing his casting coup and asked fans to “wish me luck!”

“My understanding [is that it] was just a last minute decision, there weren’t any issues, and Gus was not the only one,” Kenworthy’s representative told People. “They just had to reduce the number of people that could walk in the show. He was honored to have been considered.”

Despite the last-minute rejection, Kenworthy took the opportunity to enjoy an Italian vacation with boyfriend Matt Wilkas.
