Guardiola argues with Sterling despite Man City’s derby victory

Manchester City were too good for rivals United at the Etihad – but Pep Guardiola still wasn’t completely happy.

Goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundohgan secured a 3-1 victory and sent City back to the top of the table.

They are now 12 points clear of United too but ever-the-perfectionist Guardiola had reason to complain – particularly with Raheem Sterling.

Immediately after the final whistle, the City boss ran onto the pitch to shake hands with his players and referee Anthony Taylor.

But Sky cameras picked up Guardiola seemingly offering some stern words to Sterling, who was left bemused with his manager’s comments.

The pair continued in conversation with Sterling evidently disagreeing with Guardiola as the City boss tried to hug his player.

It appeared the City boss took exception to some showboating from Sterling towards the end of the game.

Sterling, who had been moved into a central position late on, had the ball out on the left and teased the United defenders with Leroy Sane and Phil Foden – much to the delight of the City support.

The England star was seen doing multiple standing stepovers before Marouane Fellaini played the ball off him and out for a goal kick.

A number of City fans suggested their boss was well within his right to have a word with his player.
