Gorka Marquez hints he should have replaced Neil Jones on Strictly not Kevin Clifton

Neil Jones had to pull out of performing with Strictly Come Dancing celebrity partner Alex Scott last night due to suffering an injury in studio rehearsals.

Kevin Clifton replaced the professional dancer at the last minute and had 40 minutes to learn the routine.

Many fans on Twitter were annoyed with the decision andbelieved Gorka Marquez should have replaced Neil as Kevin has already been able to dance with a celebrity on the show.

Kevin was partnered with Anneka Rice but they became the second couple to be voted out of the competition.

And, Gorka appeared to agreed it should have been him as he retweeted a series of messages from fans on Twitter.

One tweet Gorka shared was: “So @bbcstrictly bring back #kingkev even though he’s had a dancer this series and got voted off. It’s not on #forks is trending so shows you they got it wrong. @gorkamarquez1 or one of the other backing dancers, even a female.”

Another wrote: “Why not @gorkamarquez1 to stand in?! #Strictly.”

A third said: “Really missing @gorkamarquez1 having a partner on this years #Strictly also surely if someone is injured he should be the stand in? Not someone who has already had a partner and been voted out? Xxx.”

Gorka also went on to like a tweet suggesting Kevin was picked due to the issue of fitting into Neil’s costume.

The message said: “I reckon the decision about stepping in 4 @Mr_NJones was down 2 costume sizes… @keviclifton is similar size 2 Neil whereas @gorkamarquez1 smaller!!

“Of course Kevin & gorks could’ve danced it, but someone needed to fit a costume!! Kevin was brilliant! Shut up haters @bbcstrictly.”

At the beginning of the show, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman revealed Kevin was unable to dance and would be replaced by Kevin.

In view of his 69,000 followers, Neil broke his silence on his replacement and wrote: “I’m gutted tonight I won’t be able to dance because I was injured earlier today but I know @AlexScott will smash it tonight, she’s worked hard all week and she’s in safe hands with @keviclifton.”

Kevin’s girlfriend and Strictly partner from last year, Stacey Dooley, heaped praise on her beau for stepping in last minute.

The investigative journalist filmed herself speaking and excitedly exclaimed: “Yes Kev, yes! That’s why he’s the damn king.

“He had 40 minutes to learn that routine. I am so proud!”

Speaking about attempting to learn the dance in just 45 minutes, the Ballroom and Latin dancer told the panel: “It’s difficult enough having a routine in four days when you’ve never danced a step before, but then teaching a professional how to do it in about 45 minutes.

“People can see I got a few things wrong in that but Alex kept the whole thing going.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Gorka Marquez’s representative for comment.

Strictly Come Dancing results is on tonight at 7.15pm on BBC One.
