Glenn Weiss Just Pulled Off The First Ever Emmys Marriage Proposal

Glenn Weiss just pulled off the marriage proposal of the century: an Emmys proposal! After Weiss won the Emmy for directing a variety special (The Oscars), he shared the tragic news that his mother had passed away two weeks before. He also added that she had loved his girlfriend, Jan, before he broke into an epic speech.

“You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend?” he said to his significant other, who was sitting in the audience. “Because I want to call you my wife.”

The audience erupted in hoots and claps.

“Hey, I didn’t ask yet!” Weiss joked as Jan walked up to the stage.

He went onto slip his mom’s wedding ring on her finger “with our parents watching from above.”

Naturally, she said yes.

Without a doubt, the best reaction came from SNL‘s Leslie Jones who stood up from her seat in shock.

Everyone at home was in awe as well.

Weiss has directed since 1990 and has won 11 Emmy Awards. He’s known for directing the Tony Awards, the BET Awards, The Apprentice, Miss Teen USA, Miss Universe, The Biggest Loser, Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards, and other shows.

Congratulations to Weiss and his beautiful intended!

The 70th annual Emmy Awards will be held at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 17, 2018. SNL’s Michael Che and Colin Jost will host the festivities. Actors Samira Wiley and Ryan Eggold announced this year’s nominations on July 12.
