George Michael dance record ready for release almost two years after star died

George Michael fans get ready – his long-awaited dance record is finally set for release.

The late star – who died aged 53 on Christmas Day 2016 – started creating the album in 2011 and told how it would reflect “gay men’s relationship with dance music”.

And, according to his pal David Austin, the highly anticipated tracks will “definitely see the light of day”.

He says: “There are dance tracks he recorded and there are some finished products. There are some beautiful finished masters there.”

A release date for the record is not yet known. Last year, Rob Stringer, the CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, admitted there was the possibility of new tracks coming out – but only if George’s family will agree to their release.

George previously spoke about the new dance album at the Symphonica tour press conference in London in 2011.

He said: “For this album I’m going to be working with either gay or gay-friendly artists, and it’ll be a mixture of tracks sung by me and others by young gay artists – possibly unknown ones.

“And I’ve lined up some really great dance producers to work on it too, so it’ll be a pretty stunning record. I have to say that gay men’s relationship with dance music probably doesn’t end at the same time as straight people’s does!”

When the icon’s 1990 album Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1 was reissued last year, it went straight to No 1 in the UK album charts.

The last few weeks have been challenging for George’s family after his former boyfriend Fadi Fawaz detailed the days surrounding his death.

Maybe now’s the perfect time to focus on the music and get these
tracks out…
