Gemma Atkinson slams ‘selfish’ group gathering and reveals four of her loved ones have been affected by coronavirus

Gemma Atkinson has hit out at a “selfish” group of people for gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic, saying she has loved ones who have been affected by the deadly virus.

The actress, 35, took to social media to hit out after a photo emerged of a group of 30 people gathering in Lanarkshire for a drinking session.

Taking to Instagram, Gemma hit out at those in the picture as she revealed four close friends and family members have been affected by coronavirus.

Sharing the post with her 1.4 million followers, she said: "Press call them covidiots. I call them selfish p***ks!

"4 of my close family & a friend have suffered terribly with this virus! Bet your families are so proud of you."

The mother-of-one also revealed that she had been receiving messages from key workers during the pandemic saying they have been working harder than ever.

She added: "I've had a DM from a policeman saying they have never had as much abuse as they get from 'covidiots' and and nurse wishing these people not following rules could see how much a covid patient struggles in their last few hrs of life.

"Maybe then they would stay home… I'm so sorry for key /frontline workers."

Gemma had hit out at those flouting lockdown rules earlier this month, after several members of the public were seen outside enjoying barbecues in the warmer weather.

“You have achieved the following. 1. Putting even more pressure on our NHS. A service that one day you or your family members will need. You’ll be told there’s not enough beds or staff and you’ll have to wait but hey, at least you had your day out during lockdown!

“2. Adding more pressure, stress & worry to all the businesses that have had to close. People losing their jobs. Hard working good people now struggling to pay bills, mortgages, even feed their kids. But hey, at least you got your day out during lockdown!

“Because the longer you all take the p*** and believe you’re invincible and that no one else matters but you, the longer this will go on. But hey, at least you got your day out during lockdown right?

Gemma finished the post by writing: “Congratulations. You idiots.”
