The actress, 53, wore all-black – a thick wintry poncho over leather trousers and heeled suede boots.

She carried a grey purse over her shoulder and added silver hooped earrings to the ensemble, her auburn mane loosely around her shoulders.

Her writing partner James Corden was a no-show – most likely due to his chat show host duties in Los Angeles – but Ruth was swiftly followed by Mathew Horne, 41, who plays the titular Gavin in the returning sitcom.

Mathew wore a black jacket over a matching shirt, jeans and casual trainers, looking smiley ahead of the screening.

‘It was really good fun, it was a very smooth shoot. It was gorgeous to see everybody again.’

The actress added that she was overwhelmed by the reaction the cast received when they returned to Barry in Wales to shoot scenes for the one-hour festive episode.

Not long now: Speaking to BBC Wales last month, Ruth revealed that the episode had wrapped and is ready to hit screens on Christmas Day this year

She said: ‘Being in Barry was insane, we had the best welcome ever. It was quite handy because I just went in character and just talked to everybody like Nessa, which was great because I could just be rude.

‘I’d just go, “Oh, love, what you doing here? Back off!” I loved that because you could just hide behind rudeness.’

The Gavin and Stacey special sees James back as Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith and Mathew and Joanna Page reprising their respective titular roles as married couple Gavin and Stacey Shipman.

Although details of the storyline for the special are being kept under wraps, Larry – who plays Gavin’s dad Mick Shipman in the show – has promised fans they will get ‘everything they want’ from the reunion.

Due to the fact that he lives in LA and Ruth lives in the UK, James explained: ‘We wrote the new script over Facetime.

‘I would get up at 4am, and work with Ruth until it was time to take Max to school…’

The writing powerhouse were keen to keep their decision to themselves as they didn’t want to feel pressure to make something that might not work.

He told GQ: ‘We didn’t tell anyone we were doing it, certainly not the BBC. We thought, “We’ll do it for us and we’ll know if it’s right”. We’ve seen too many people ruin what they’ve done – for no reason.’

The one-hour episode will air on Christmas Day 2019 on BBC One.
