Gavin and Stacey star unfollows partner as couple ‘split after seven years’

Years and Years: Russell Tovey stars in BBC drama trailer

Russell Tovey and Steve Brockman have reportedly split and the pair also unfollowed each other on Instagram this week.

They had been in a solid partnership for the past seven years, pausing only to briefly call time on their romance back in 2019.

Russell, 41, who is also known for his role in the supernatural BBC comedy drama Being Human, shared a snap on Monday referencing his dog – but there was no mention of Steve, 39.

The flame-orange skies of the summertime sunset in Margate, Kent, looked like the perfect romantic setting – but Russell suggested his pet dog was his only companion in a cryptic post.

“It’s just you and me, kid. This is all for you, my son,” the Gavin and Stacey legend captioned the photo, in view of his 763,000 Instagram followers.

Express.co.uk approached Russell Tovey’s representatives for comment.

Russell, who began a role last year as Patrick Read in American Horror Story: NYC, previously shared he first realised he was gay at the age of 15.

He subsequently came out to his parents three years later, although the actor recalled he felt pressure to maintain a masculine image.

Telling the Observer that he’d had to “toughen up” as a teen, he added: “If I’d have been able to relax, prance around and sing in the street, I might be a different person now!”

Originally, Russell and partner Steve had got engaged for a six month period before splitting briefly, but in 2020 he revealed that he was feeling unsure whether the pair were still planning to tie the knot.

He told The Telegraph that he’d sold the engagement ring and given the funds to his brother to spend at DisneyWorld.

“I don’t know how it works, because we were [engaged], then we broke up, now we’re back together,” he elaborated.

“Is it like Snakes and Ladders? Do you go back to the beginning of the game and have to work your way back up again?”

The actor spoke openly about his sexuality in an interview with Attitude magazine, admitting that he’d fallen “desperately in love” with a male actor on set.

He revealed: “I was doing a TV show and I was desperately in love with this much older actor and had such a crush on him, and I didn’t think anyone knew.

“I thought I was hiding it very well, but I wasn’t. This older actress took me for a walk along the beach where it was filming and explained to me that I might be gay.

“It felt like, ‘Oh, that’s an option. That is something I can possibly be. That’s what these feelings I’m having are,'” he mused.
