Gary Lineker says he's 'very single' and reveals he tried BOTOX

‘I’m very single!’: Gary Lineker jokes the only people ‘sliding into his DMs are making charity requests’… as he reveals he tried BOTOX and ‘absolutely hated’ it

Gary Lineker has said that he’s ‘very single’, joking that the only people ‘sliding into his DMs are making charity requests’.

The football star, 59, spoke very candidly about his personal life and also revealed that he once tried Botox but ‘absolutely hated’ it in a new interview with The Sun.

Although being single since splitting from second wife Danielle in 2016, Gary explained that he’s not been looking for love during lockdown.

Gary said: ‘Yes, I’m very single, especially in lockdown. Even the sight of a female is very rare.

‘I’ve had lots of people sliding into my DMs but it’s normally requests for plugging their book or their charity. I’m nearly 60! Who’s going to slide into my DMs?’

The TV presenter explained how his sons told him dating is done by sending private messages on social media now, but he isn’t convinced it will work for him.

Gary has been single since splitting from Danielle in 2016. He was also married to Michelle Cockayne and they share four adult sons: George, Harry, Tobias and Angus.

Also in the telling chat, Gary discussed having Botox in the past although he did not divulge when he had the cosmetic treatment.

Gary said: ‘I did try Botox once. I absolutely hated it. I’m quite expressive, then all of a sudden I couldn’t move.’

He added that he wasn’t forced into the decision and spent months feeling self conscious afterwards.

Elsewhere in the interview Gary discussed his health, saying that he has a full body checkup every few years after having a prostate scare.

The star urged other men to get themselves checked out, adding that it’s important to get ahead of any potential problems.

He also revealed that he is planning on having a brain scan next year after learning that football could increase the chances of getting dementia.

Gary claimed that all football players should be ‘apprehensive’ and added that he made a ‘conscious decision’ to only head balls in matches, not during training.

The interview comes after Gary blamed his ‘old age’ for forgetting to wear a face mask after photos emerged of him shopping barefaced in M&S last month.

The presenter was photographed by a member of the public in the dessert aisle of M&S in Barnes, south-west London.

Despite previously criticising ‘snowflakes’ who refused to wear a mask Lineker failed to cover his mouth and nose with no mask in sight as he wandered the shop.

Lineker took to Twitter to apologise for the blunder, writing: ‘In my old age, I went into a store and forgot to put my mask on.

Not a fan: Gary also revealed he tried Botox several years ago, but wasn’t impressed as he’s an expressive person and didn’t like not being able to move his face (pictured in 2018)

Joke: Comedian David Baddiel jokingly hit back: ‘I think we all know you can’t get one to fit round your ears’

‘Was wondering why people were giving me daggers. Realised after a couple of minutes and hastily put it on. Felt awful and embarrassed. Apologies to those present.’

Comedian David Baddiel jokingly hit back: ‘I think we all know you can’t get one to fit round your ears. P.S I love Gary. Even his ears.’

Earlier in the year Lineker made his view on wearing masks to prevent the spread of covid-19 very clear.

He tweeted on April 17: ‘How can there be any debate about whether we should be wearing a mask? Even if it’s only a one percent chance of making you safer.

‘Even if it is only a one percent chance of stopping you giving it to someone else. Even if it only saves one life then it has to be beneficial.’
