Paul O’Grady joins BBC rival Boom for Christmas show months after ending 14-year stint at Radio 2
It is the station claiming to be coaxing older listeners from BBC Radio 2.
Now Boom Radio has captured former Beeb favourite Paul O’Grady for a Christmas Day special.
O’Grady left Radio 2 in August after 14 years, only months after he had to start sharing his slot with comedian Rob Beckett, 36.
At the station, O’Grady, 67, had hosted a Christmas Day show with his famous triples – three songs by one artist played in a row.
His two-hour special for Boom was hailed by station co-founder David Lloyd, who said: ‘This is an absolute coup and we’re delighted Paul is joining us.’

O’Grady, who will present from his home in Kent, said: ‘Looking forward to being back on the wireless for Christmas Day lunch with the usual unpredictable mayhem.’
His show will feature tracks from the 60s and 70s, listener messages and a skit involving Father Christmas.
The station, set up in February 2021 aimed at Baby Boomers born from 1946 to 1964, is the nation’s fastest growing broadcaster and now pulls in 443,000 weekly listeners.
O’Grady’s BBC exit was the latest in an exodus of radio stars including Vanessa Feltz, 60, and Simon Mayo, 64.
