Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi out following Anne Heche's death

Ellen DeGeneres looks downcast on outing with wife Portia de Rossi in first public sighting since her ex-girlfriend Anne Heche died from injuries she sustained in fiery solo car crash in LA

  • Heche died on August 11 at the age of 53
  • She was in a relationship with DeGeneres, 64, from 1997 to 2000
  • Late actress also knew de Rossi, 49, from their time on the series Ally McBeal
  • Heche, 53, revealed before her death she’d advised de Rossi not to pursue a relationship with DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi were seen out in public for the first time since the death of DeGeneres’s former girlfriend Anne Heche, as they stepped out for lunch at the upscale eatery Tre Lune in Montecito, California.

DeGeneres, 64, donned a button-down short-sleeved top with navy blue shorts and white Nike sneakers. The talk show host had her short blonde locks neatly combed as she accessorized with a watch and sunglasses.

De Rossi, 49, was clad in an off-white T-shirt with light blue jeans and brown ankle-high boots, with her blonde tresses parted on the late summer day.

The latest: Ellen DeGeneres, 64, and wife Portia de Rossi, 49, were seen out in public for the first time since the death of DeGeneres’s former girlfriend Anne Heche, as they stepped out for lunch at the upscale eatery Tre Lune in Montecito, California on Wednesday

The outing marked the first time DeGeneres was seen publicly prior to a previous visit to the eatery on August 8, three days after Heche’s August 5 car crash into a Mar Vista, California home that left her with injuries that would prove to be fatal.

At the time, DeGeneres was asked by a photographer if she’d been in touch with Heche following the accident, and replied, ‘We’re not in touch with each other, so I wouldn’t know.’

DeGeneres said she wouldn’t ‘want anyone to be hurt’ in the brief chat in regards to Heche, who she was romantically-involved with from 1997 to 2000.

Following Heche’s death, DeGeneres said on social media, ‘This is a sad day. I’m sending Anne’s children, family and friends all of my love.’

Heche is survived by son Homer, 20, from her former marriage to Laffoon, 48, and son Atlas, 13, with former partner James Tupper, 57.

Heche in June of 2021 spoke on her podcast Better Together with Heather Duffy about how she advised de Rossi not to get romantically-involved with DeGeneres.

Heche was acquainted with de Rossi as they both appeared on the Fox series Ally McBeal, and said de Rossi was a guest at her 2001 wedding to to ex-husband Laffoon.

On the podcast, Heche said that ‘Portia even asked me about Ellen’ and told her, ‘I’m gonna go after Ellen,’ to which Heche replied, ‘Red flag, red flag, red flag!’

Heche’s family on Tuesday said that the late actress would be laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, the AP reported, citing a statement from Heche’s family.

DeGeneres and Heche were snapped at the Emmy Awards in September of 1997 in Pasadena, California

Heche said on her podcast last year she told de Rossi of dating DeGeneres, ‘Red flag, red flag, red flag!’

Heche had been cremated and her ashes are going to be put in a mausoleum on the site, as her son Homer said he and his brother were ‘convinced our Mom would love the site we have chosen for her,’ as ‘it’s beautiful, serene and she will be among her Hollywood peers.

‘She was our Mom, but the kindness and the outpouring of the past few days reminded us that she also belongs to her fans, to the entertainment community, and now, to the ages.’

Once her headstone is completed, the family will hold a small memorial for the actress.

Earlier this month, officials with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner ruled in a report that Heche’s death was accidental and the result of ‘inhalation and thermal injuries’ she suffered in the crash, in which she also suffered a ‘sternal fracture due to blunt trauma.’

Heche had won a Daytime Emmy award for her work on the soap opera Another World, and went on to appear in a number of high-profile late 90s films, including Donnie Brasco, Wag the Dog, Six Days Seven Nights and Psycho.
