Ed Sheeran has confirmed he is married to long-term girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.

Following reports that they wed just before Christmas 2018, the singer revealed Cherry is his wife in a new interview on YouTube with Charlamagne The God to promote his album No.6 Collaborations Project.

After Charlamagne Tha God asked about lyrics on the album which refer to the singer’s ‘wife’, Ed admitted that he wrote the words before the couple tied the knot, but he ‘knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out.’

In the interview Ed is asked about the lyrics on his Eminem and 50 Cent collaboration Remember the Name, which say: ‘Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted / My wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick.’

Ed explained: ‘It was actually before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out. [I thought] Someone’s gonna hear that and be like, “Oh, they’re married!” I didn’t know how that would be construed, but obviously it’s already come out.’

The Grammy award winner and Cherry wed just before Christmas, in a ceremony which saw just 40 close friends and family in attendance, according to a report in The Sun.

It came just a year after Ed had denied that he and Cherry had tied the knot, after he was questioned about a new ring that had appeared on his wedding finger.

A source said: ‘Ed got married a few days before Christmas. It was very quiet – just Ed’s oldest school pals, limited family and the priest.

‘There were only 40 people – so no Taylor Swift, record company executives or any royals or pop star pals. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them – just a tiny winter wedding.

‘Neither of them were that fussed about making a big deal about it. Cherry just wanted to get it out of the way without any problems or intrusions.’

The source went onto claim that Ed and Cherry are planning a big festival-style wedding for the summer for their celebrity pals, who were not told about their decision to marry in secret.

Ed announced his engagement to Cherry, 26, in January 2018 with a candid Instagram snap, gushing to fans: ‘Got myself a fiancée just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx’

The couple are thought to have started dating in 2015, with Ed’s best pal Taylor Swift sharing a photo of the pair kissing on her Instagram account.

Popped the question: Ed announced his engagement to Cherry, 26, in January 2018 with a candid Instagram snap

Ed and Cherry first met as children when they both attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk. But Cherry moved to the US for university, meaning the friends lost touch. After working on Wall Street, she moved back to the UK in 2016 to be with Ed.

Elsewhere in the interview with Charlamagne The God, Ed admitted his wife is ‘scared’ that he is isolating himself too much.

The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker has his own pub and entertainment centre at his sprawling home in Suffolk in East England, but his partner is concerned he doesn’t ‘go out’ enough.

‘Cherry’s trying to get me away from it. She’s scared that the pub, the cinema – I’ve made it like my friends can just come here now rather than me going out. Cherry’s always trying to get me to go out more and more,’ he confessed.

New music: Ed dropped his new album No.6 Collaborations Project this week as well as a video for Antisocial, his joint track with Travis Scott

The 28-year-old singer/songwriter has revealed hasn’t been able to just pop out to buy something like a loaf of bread in the last three years because of how famous he is, and while Cherry can appreciate he doesn’t like the overwhelming attention of fans she has told him it’s ‘not healthy’ to always stay inside.

He added: ‘She’s seen [the mobs], she obviously doesn’t like it. But she says it’s not healthy to do this.’

However, he explained he feels comfortable in Suffolk – where he was raised – because people treat him ‘pretty normally’, despite his pop superstar status.

Bizarre: Directed by Dave Meyers and written by Matt Walton, the video sees Sheeran embodying numerous characters

Ed – whose new album ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project’ was released on Friday (12.07.19) – does feel like the luckiest man alive due to his relationship with Cherry, because she loves him unconditionally.

He said: ‘Constantly I wake up every day with Cherry and I’m like, “Why the f**k are you with me? You could literally be with whoever you wanted and you chose me.” ‘

And I’m saying all of the things that I think are wrong with me and you still want to be with me, and I find that amazing … That would be the worst thing. To just take it for granted.’
