‘I convinced myself I was never going to sing or pick up the guitar again’: Ed Sheeran admits he thought about QUITTING music for good after becoming a father
Ed Sheeran has admitted that he considered quitting music altogether after his daughter Cherry was born last year.
However, he reasoned with himself internally and had to weigh up what was best for him and his family.
In an interview with GQ magazine the Shape Of You singer, 30, said: ‘I actually convinced myself I was never going to sing or pick up the guitar again. I was like, “No. This is it. I quit.”‘

‘I asked, what’s more important for my daughter and my family? Is it being there 110 per cent of the time and not going to London for a day […] Or is it having a daughter that knows her mum and dad have a great work ethic and really love their jobs?’
The cover star went on to reveal that he branded himself unemployed during his creative slump, which made him intensely unhappy.
‘I saw myself as technically being unemployed during that period of noncreation and, to be honest, I was f**king miserable. I wanted Cherry to see me happy and thriving.’

Ed then discussed his close friendship with the singer Taylor Swift. He revealed that he could count on her if things went wrong, despite feeling saddened two years into his career when he realised all his friends were famous.
‘Taylor is just someone I would definitely call if things were truly f**ked. This isn’t just an exercise in name-dropping and sounding like a c***
‘I remember being out in Los Angeles, two years into my career, and all my friends were just famous people and I was so… miserable.
‘I said to myself “No one here actually loves me.” They loved the idea of me, but no one actually loves me. So I left. For good.’
Ed attended the 2021 GQ Men Of The Year Awards on Wednesday, where he scooped the Solo Artist of the Year Award.
He also revealed he was was styled by his pal Elton John as he wore an eye-catching Versace jacket.

He donned tge rainbow coloured blazer in the designer’s signature print as he walked the red carpet in London’s Tate Modern.
He told The Sun: ‘[Elton] has been sl*gging off my boring wardrobe for years. I’m not really a fashion guy but I’ve had to start to show an interest – he loves it. Elton approved — it’s very him.’
The interview comes after Ed announced last month this that his upcoming studio album =, pronounced equals, is set to be released on Oct. 29.
He unveiled his 14-song track list on Thursday, which includes his emotionally charged track Visiting Hours.
The Thinking Out Loud hitmaker detailed how the album is ‘really personal’ and confirmed he sees the piece as his ‘coming-of-age record’, having become a father and tied the knot since he last released an album.
