What? Fans took to Twitter in horror at the idea that Phil – who has come close to death many times – could have been killed off

This is not the first time Phil has suffered a brush with death, as back in 1999 he suffered a blood clot after being attacked by his brother Grant amid the infamous Sharongate storyline.

He was then left for dead during the infamous Who Shot Phil storyline in 2001, before almost burning to death in Queen Vic amid his addiction from crack cocaine.

Along with being shot on his wedding day and endless car crashes, Phil was told in 2016 he had months to live after heavy drinking led to cirrhosis of the liver.

Told he would need a transplant, a Christmas miracle saw a donor step forward, and Phil went onto cause drama and conflict for another day.

Close call: This is not the first time Phil has come close to death, as he was the centre of the infamous Who Shot Phil storyline in 2001

Scare: In 2016 he was given just months to live after heavy drinking caused him to suffer cirrhosis, before a last minute liver transplant saved his life

Phil’s week started off badly after viewers learned he was not the father of wife Sharon’s (Letitia Dean) unborn baby, thanks to her steamy affair with young Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).

With his life hanging in the balance, it won’t be long before the truth comes out in spectacular soap fashion, with suspicion set to be rife on Square about who caused Phil’s shocking injuries.

It had been teased by soap bosses that he was set to be attacked in violent scenes, but given Ben’s (Max Bowden) realisation that he had been cut out of his dad’s will, fans had predicted he would be the one to deliver the devastating blow.

Stacey is also set to exit the Square in the coming weeks after actress Lacey Turner went on maternity leave, so it remains to be seen whether she will go on the run after the shocking crime.
