EastEnders’ Letitia Dean, 52, admits it’s been ‘awkward’ filming sex scenes with Danny Walters, 26, but hopes it ‘stops older women feeling invisible’

She has been a fixture on EastEnders as the lovable Sharon Mitchell for 35 years, and during this time has endured her fair share of scandals and forbidden love. 

And Letitia Dean spoke to heat magazine this week about how she is ‘living vicariously through [her] character.’

The 52-year-old actress candidly discussed Sharon’s latest raunchy affair with Keanu Taylor (played by 26-year-old Danny Walters) and why she believes the storyline is empowering to older women. 

Scandal: Letitia Dean, who plays Sharon Mitchell on EastEnders, spoke to Heat magazine this week about how she is ‘living vicariously through [her] character’ 

It was revealed on the soap last year that Sharon has fallen pregnant at the age of 49 after a very risque rendezvous with her daughter’s boyfriend, Keanu.  

Sharon has been married to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) throughout her time on the show however the pair have endured a very rocky relationship full of twist and turns. 

Not to mention Sharongate, which Letitia describes as her all time favourite moment.

This occurred back in 1994 when 25.3 million tuned in to watch the taped confession that she had sex with her husbands brother play out in The Queen Victoria pub.

However, the newest twist in the saga is Letitia’s ‘favourite current storyline.’ 

Admitting that her on-screen relationship with Keanu has been the subject of much envy, she quipped: ‘I got a lot of, “You lucky bastard!” And I was. 

‘I’ve been very blessed with my young leading men.’

Reflecting on their steamiest scene together, which saw them enjoy a dalliance on a kitchen table, she recalled: ‘With the leg up? Yes! I had to dig deep to remember what that was like, I can tell you… 

‘I’m living vicariously through my character.’

She continued: ‘It was a little awkward to start with, but you just laugh your way through it, and I did wear my drawers.’

The actress said: ‘You don’t all have to look like Claudia Schiffer to have that happen, do you? 

‘I think a lot of women have been through that situation.’ 

She continued: ‘You hear a lot of women saying they feel invisible as they get older. 

‘And it was nice trying to portray that situation without making it sleazy.’  

Letitia revealed the next big storyline for Sharon will be having her baby. 

This comes as quite the shock not only considering her age but with plenty of expected drama with Phil throwing her out of the house.   

The icon is proving that after 35 years, she is still the heart of the show.

She described it as an ‘honour’ to be on EastEnders for so long and how it really is a ‘family.’
