Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford kick off final week of This Morning

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford reveal this is their FINAL week hosting This Morning for the summer – as Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes prepare to take over

Eamonn Holmes announced on Monday’s episode of This Morning that he and Ruth Langsford are in their final week of presenting the show for the summer break.

The pair have been covering for the show’s regulars Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during the school holidays and will now be replaced by newcomer Vernon Kay and returning presenter Rochelle Humes. 

Welcoming viewers to the show on Monday, the couple mysteriously revealed it was their ‘last week’ as well as the ‘last week of summer’.

Ahead of Vernon’s appearance on the show, one This Morning viewer sent in a snap of them meeting the Family Fortunes host, 47, at a rugby match. 

‘I was at Twickenham for the Six Nations and bumped into Vernon Kay,’ read out Eamonn from his iPad. 

‘Well, you’ll be able to bump into him on this very programme this time next week,’ he exclaimed as he celebrated the newcomer. 

Following the conclusion of Eamonn and Ruth’s last week of of their latest stint, Rochelle Humes will present This Morning with Alison Hammond on Bank Holiday Monday, before she is joined by Vernon from Tuesday.

Vernon will guest host the show for three days this month and is ‘beside himself with excitement’. 

The TV personality told The Sun: ‘To be asked to guest host on a show I’ve watched since its inception is a huge tick for me.’

Meanwhile, his co-host Rochelle added: ‘I also can’t wait to welcome Vernon Kay into the This Morning family.’ 

According to the newspaper’s sources, Vernon’s hiring is part of a drive to try out new talent, since Phillip Schofield has been fronting the show since as early as 2002.

Ruth and Eamonn’s exit comes after the Irish presenter caused outrage earlier this month when he compared Dr Zoe Williams hair to an alpaca’s on the show. 

Eamonn was running through the programme’s topics as he introduced the doctor who said via video chat that she would be discussing, ‘how your health can be benefited from gardening and even alpacas’. 

Quick to jump in, Eamonn remarked: ‘Your hair reminds me of an alpaca today! You just want to pet it, don’t you? It’s very alpaca-ish’ before gesturing with a petting motion.

‘Never talk about petting a black woman’s hair!’ The couple’s exit comes after Eamonn cause outrage earlier this month when he compared Dr Zoe Williams hair to an alpaca’s on the show

Dr Zoe, 41, then exclaimed, ‘Don’t touch my hair!’ as she pointed her pen at the camera.

While Dr Zoe took the joke in her stride, viewers were left shocked at the comments, taking to Twitter to pen: ‘EUh Eamonn what tf was that about? Have u learnt nothing?! U never talk about petting a black woman’s hair. And saying it looks like an Alpaca?! #thismorning’; 

‘Did @EamonnHolmes just tell a black woman her hair reminds him of an alpaca and he wants to pet her or am I hallucinating?! Persevering face #ThisMorning’;  ‘@thismorning did @EamonnHolmes just compare the doctors Afro to an alpaca?!?’; 

‘Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey Eamonn what did you just say to Dr Zoe? Have you learnt nothing?! never talk about petting a #blackwoman’s #hair. Never ever say it looks like an Alpaca?! #thismorning I don’t watch ‘normal’ telly, only on holiday, now I know why.’
