They’re one of TV’s favourite double acts – and the Hairy Bikers can’t even bear to be apart on Valentine’s Day.
The bearded duo claim they end up together most February 14ths because they’re so busy filming their hit food shows.
But they’re such good pals, a couple of years ago Si King even crashed a Valentine’s date with Dave Myers and his wife.
“I spend most of my Valentine’s with him,” Dave says, laughing at Si.
“Last year I had the first Valentine’s ever with my wife. But the year before I was with my wife and Kingy! That was really funny, we went out for dinner, the three of us.
“We both said she should be chuffed to be out with us. We got along like a house on fire. I think she felt left out.”
Best mates Dave and Si are talking all things food and love ahead of their new show on Channel 5, The Hairy Bikers’ Chocolate Challenge.
Think Bake Off meets The Apprentice, but with chocolate.
If you’re looking for an aphrodisiacs for a special Valentine dinner tomorrow, the hirsute cooks say you can’t go wrong with seafood, washed down with a chocolatey dessert.
Dave, who starred in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2013 with pro partner Karen Hauer, says he’ll be making savoury pancakes for his wife of nine years, Liliana.
He says: “I went online and bought a 125g tin of caviar. So what I’m going to do is get some sour cream and make some blinis. And half a bottle of vodka – we’ll have a night in. I bought a blini pan from Russia and do my own from scratch.
“It’s so nice and, with ice-cold vodka, it makes you feel happy.”
Si adds: “Seafood is the most romantic food. You have to get stuck in. There’s something lovely about that.
“And the chocolate fondant that we do is really nice for a Valentine’s Day meal because it’s really sumptuous and melt-in-the-middle.”
Maybe you don’t expect the Bikers to be great romantics, but they reveal they’ve both had their moments.
Si once hired a helicopter to surprise a partner in New South Wales, Australia.
“She didn’t know where she was going,” the 53-year-old says.
“We flew out to a place called the Wolgan Valley. It has a restaurant. That was the most romantic thing I’d ever done. We had a couple of nights there and ate very nice food. I haven’t repeated it! That was a once in a lifetime.”
And 62-year-old Dave took Lilliana to the Thai island of Koh Samui for her birthday, and surprised her with a special dinner at one of the most romantic restaurants in Thailand.
He said: “There’s a restaurant called On the Rocks. It’s the most amazing place. The tables are on rocky ledges.
“The night we got there, there was a full moon. I didn’t think I’d get a table. The waiters come down the steps into the rocks, you’re basically on your own.
“The food was unbelievable. That’s the most romantic thing I’ve ever done.”
