Demi Lovato breaks silence following drug overdose

Demi Lovato has broken her silence following a drug overdose that landed her in the hospital for several days.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” the troubled star shared Sunday in a lengthy message to fans on Instagram. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”

The 25-year-old superstar thanked God for keeping her alive and she also graciously thanked fans for their continued support throughout her ordeal. “Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time,” she said.

She also thanked the staff of doctors and nurses at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital for nursing her back to health. “Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you,” Lovato added.

“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” Lovato concluded. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.”

Lovato was hospitalized after a suspected drug overdose in late July. At the time, the pop star was found unconscious at her Hollywood home and was immediately treated with Narcan.

Although initial reports indicated the singer overdosed on heroin, sources closed to the situation said meth may have been involved.

She was also said to have been surrounded by enablers near the time of her recent relapse after six years of sobriety.

It’s unclear where the star will continue her recovery and if that plan involves rehab.
