As Bollywood star Deepika Padukone and longtime love Ranveer Singh approach their one year wedding anniversary, the 33-year-old actress is opening up about her vision for starting a family of her own with her now-husband.
Speaking to BAZAAR.com for our fall digital cover, Padukone explained her philosophy on balancing work and family, which is inspired directly by her own parents.
“My sister and I had two working parents who were still able to give every aspect of their lives time and dignity, whether its work or being home with us,” she explains. “I really hope that when Ranveer and I start a family, we’re able to do it the way I experienced it as a child with my parents. Just rooted, and wholesome, and secure.”
Padukone and Singh have made a point of doing things their own way throughout their years-long relationship. Even though the couple dated for six years before officially tying the knot, they waited until after their wedding to live together—a choice Padukone says was “the best decision” of their lives.
“If we had started living together earlier, then what would we be discovering later on?” she poses. “That’s what this year has been—living together and discovering each other. I like to say we made the best decision of our lives. I know people are cynical about marriage, but that hasn’t been our experience. We believe in the institution, and we’re enjoying every bit of it.”
