Earlier in the month, David gave fans a glimpse at his appearance in Modern Family, as he shared a short clip from the episode via Instagram.

The football legend and Friends star Courteney Cox, 55, were seen walking up to Stephen Merchant’s character Higgins to ask for assistance while bowling.

Stephen Merchant’s character, who appeared in an episode of the show in 2014, kicked off the scene with a comedic start as he put on his glasses and told the sportsman: ‘Oh Mr Beckham, apologies, blind as a bat without these bad boys.’

Unperturbed, David retorted: ‘Myself and Courteney are expecting a bowling instructor, would you have them meet us at the bowling alley please?’

Amused by the question, Stephen’s character Higgins said: ‘You and Miss Cox getting an edge for this weekends celebrity bowlathon?’

Stepping into the conversation, Courteney poked fun at her bowling partner as she joked: ‘Oh we’ll need it, you should have seen the way he bowled last year.’ Failing to see the funny side, David hit back: ‘I mean, it is to raise money for charity.’

Choosing not the mince her words, Courteney said: ‘Yea, a dollar for each of the 18 pins that you knocked down. Thanks to you, Doctors Without Borders are Doctors Without Malaria Pills.’ As they walked off together, David murmured to Stephen: ‘Bit harsh…’

David and Courteney play themselves in the drama as they compete together in a celebrity bowling tournament.
