‘You’ve turned out exactly how I wanted you to’: David Beckham and his dad Ted, 70, reflect on their strong relationship in sweet Father’s Day clip
The Beckham clan are famously known for maintaining their strong family values.
And David, 44, and his dad Ted, 70, reflected on their relationship as they discussed the importance of being ‘present’ for their children in a sweet clip ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday.
Lifting the lid on their bond, the sportsman and former kitchen fitter sipped on glasses of whiskey as they shared heart-warming anecdotes for Haig Club’s Celebrating Dad series.

The father and son were in great spirits as they cheered to the annual celebration, with Ted enthusing: ‘You’ve turned out exactly how I wanted you.’
In his true cheeky fashion, former Manchester United ace David joked: ‘Yes.. handsome and hardworking’, before his dad quipped: ‘I wouldn’t go that far!’
The UNICEF ambassador, who shares Brooklyn, 20, Romeo, 16, Cruz, 14, and Harper, seven, with wife Victoria, 45, went on to express his appreciation towards his lookalike father for ‘being present’ during his childhood.
He gushed: ‘In school, I’d say “let’s go to the park”, or “let’s go to the garden”, and you’d never say no… what’s important to me is being present for [my children]. When I’m at home, I take them to school every morning.’

‘When you became a parent, it changes you in so many ways. You just want to be with them, and feel special’, Ted added.
David explained his initial worries with being a first-time dad to eldest child Brooklyn: ‘I remember when Brooklyn was born, I slept my head against the door because I was so worried that someone was gonna come in.’
Praising his son for his parenting skills two decades on, Ted detailed: ‘I don’t think that ever changes I think. That’s part of being parents. What I’m chuffed about your boys is how polite they are.’

The pair also spoke about their love for tattoos, with the father-of-three, who shares David, Lynne and Joanne with wife Sandra, revealing the heavily-inked star was once apprehensive about getting work done.
He explained: ‘When I went and had my first tattoo done I was 14… you told me you’d never have one as you asked me, “did that hurt, dad?” And I went, “yeah it did”. And now look at you!’
Ending the clip, Ted sweetly gave David an old Father’s Day card and stated: ‘This is something I’ve had for years, I’ve kept everything. I think you were about three then. You haven’t turned out too bad, cheers boy.’

Earlier this month, the famous family enjoyed a fun-filled week in the States, in which David and Victoria’s kids played in the pool while their parents put on a close display in the water, before taking their brood out for a trip around Florida’s Everglades.
Former footballer David, Posh Spice Victoria and their children have been splitting their time between Miami and London as part of a tortuous eight-year process to launch his Inter Miami MLS franchise.
Inter Miami will join the MLS as an expansion team for the 2020 season, with Beckham front and centre as one of the owners, and the public face of the team.

However, several issues still need to be resolved with Inter Miami – full name Club Internacional de Futbol Miami – before they can finally take to the field in a competitive fixture.
They will play in the Eastern Conference, taking on opponents from Montreal to Philadelphia, New York to their soon to be state rivals, Orlando City.
The sportsman’s aim will no doubt be to emulate current MLS champions Atlanta United, who triumphed just two seasons after entering as an expansion franchise.
Meanwhile, Victoria – who has opted to sit out of the current Spice Girls reunion tour around the UK – has been focusing on her family while her former bandmates Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton continue to their Spice World gigs.
