Dave Grohl Performs ‘In Bloom’ With Trombone Shorty

Dave Grohl performed the Nirvana classic “In Bloom” with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue at the Voodoo Threauxdown Festival in Los Angeles over the weekend.

This marks the second time the former Nirvana drummer has played the song since the band broke up after the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994. The Foo Fighters founder had previously played drums to the song during Nirvana’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

“For years I couldn’t even listen to any music, let alone a Nirvana song,” Grohl said in an interview with GQ earlier this year of his connection to his former band. “When Kurt died, every time the radio came on, it broke my heart. I don’t put Nirvana records on, no. Although they are always on somewhere. I get in the car, they’re on. I go into a shop, they’re on. For me, it’s so personal.”

“When most people think about Nirvana, they think about a video or a song on the radio, but to me it was a really personal experience with some friends that went from sleeping on floors to then being the number one band on the charts,” Grohl had shared with CBS News’ Sunday Morning in July.

Grohl had also said that after frontman Kurt Cobain died, he felt lost and went through a really dark period in his life.
