Dancing On Ice's Ian H Watkins and Matt Evers want sexier routine

Dancing On Ice’s Ian ‘H’ Watkins and Matt Evers ask bosses if they can perform a raunchier routine… after they made history as the first same sex couple

Dancing On Ice star Ian H Watkins and his partner Matt Evers have asked the show’s bosses to allow them to perform a more raunchy routine.

The pair made history as the first same sex coupling when they made their debut on the ITV show last week – finishing second with a score of 25 out of 40.

And Steps singer Ian, 43, and his professional dance partner Matt, also 43, have since spoken to bosses in the hope they can make their performances more romantic.

Matt, who was partnered with Gemma Collins last year, told the Sun Online: ‘We have spoken to producers to see if we can make the routines a little steamier.

‘Perhaps take it up a notch and add some romance.

‘It’s down to them though. Last week we tested the waters and we were overwhelmed by the response from the viewers, ‘ he added.

The pair’s request comes after their emotional routine last week, in which they danced to High hopes by Panic At The Disco.

Ian reduced new judge John Barrowman to tears with the words: ‘The world is ready for this’, following their performance.

And it was an eventful launch show for six of the 12 celebrities who skated, with Trisha Goddard, 62, being the first star to take a dramatic tumble, placing her bottom of the leaderboard and in next week’s skate-off.

Ahead of his performance, Ian addressed the prospect of becoming the first ever in the show’s 14-year history to dance with a same-sex partner.

‘I am a gay guy. I always wanted a same sex partner,’ he said.

Matt, who is also gay, added: ‘This year is pretty special. After 11 years of Dancing On Ice, I will have a same-sex partner.

Discussing the differences they faced after meeting each other on the rink, Matt said: ‘The first day we reached to grab each others hand and we both had our hand down,’ while Ian joked: ‘We’ve found out who is lifting who. I’m not lifting Matt.’

The pair placed second on the leaderboard, scoring 25 out of 40 and were commended with a standing ovation from the judges.

In response to a tumultuous applause from the audience, an emotional Ian said: ‘I feel that I’ve wanted this for so long. It means so much to so many people. The world is ready for this.’

Matt added: ‘Thank you for everybody at home. This is normal.’

John, 52, said with tears rolling down his face: ‘That makes me happy on a multitude of levels. Seeing two men who represent someone like me. We’ve shown you can do it. I’m overwhelmed. I’m almost speechless. It was wonderful.’
