Farewell: The actress, 68, departed Corrie for Thailand after a row with her mother Audrey Roberts. She then locked horns with her son Nick Tilsley who told her to stay away from him after brother David failed to help him during his prison stint

Viewers saw Audrey – who was fleeced of £80,000 by the brothers – blame Nick and David’s feud for her disappearance, as devastated daughter Sarah called the police. Gail was last seen sipping champagne in a first class lounge before boarding a flight.

Helen appeared flustered when she was quizzed by host Kate Garraway, who asked: ‘Currently Gail on Corrie is missing, could this be the end, what’s going on?’

She responded: ‘Well, err, umm. I am still here and I am alive and well! I’m in Thailand. Everybody knows that.’

‘I have been fortunate to hang on this long. I am limping third behind. Happily.’

‘Alive and well’: Helen appeared flustered when she was quizzed by host Kate Garraway, who asked: ‘Currently Gail on Corrie is missing, could this be the end, what’s going on?’

Drama: She responded: ‘Well, err, umm. I am still here and I am alive and well! I’m in Thailand. Everybody knows that’

The star, who debuted as Gail in 1974 is the third-longest serving Corrie character in history, behind Bill Roache (Ken Barlow) and Barbara Knox (Rita Fairclough).

When asked if it was hard to separate herself from Gail, Helen said: ‘Never Richard, no. I just go to the dressing room, take off Gail’s clothes, put on mine and go home. That’s it.

‘You’d go potty. If I went home as Gail I don’t think I’d have any friends…or a husband.

‘I know her [Gail] very well and more importantly I know all the wonderful people I work with.’

Gail vanished after attempting to reconcile her family members- in the wake of  conniving David and Nick fleecing Audrey of her £80,000 inheritance.

The drama continued as Nick and David were later arrested for breaking their bail conditions.
