Comic Relief 2021: Davina McCall looks sensational in a tight red dress while Alesha Dixon flashes her taut midriff in a suit as they host the star-studded charity show… and raise an impressive £25MILLION

Davina McCall and Alesha Dixon looked sensational as they hosted Comic Relief 2021 on Friday.

The stars both ensured to pull out all the stops as they took to the stage alongside Paddy McGuinness, David Tennant and Lenny Henry to present the fundraising event – with the total standing at £25,406,076 by just 8.30pm.

Showcasing her phenomenal figure, Davina, 53, slipped into a skin-tight red dress and heels while Alesha opted for a sharp crimson suit paired with a bandeau top.

Davina exuded confidence in her slinky ensemble which boasted a chic one-shoulder detail and midi length to perfectly accentuate her toned figure.

She wore her locks tied back, leaving two strands down at the front to frame her features.

While Alesha, 42, also cut a stylish figure in a red blazer and high-waisted trousers. The singer flashed her taut midriff as she paired her outfit with a small black crop top. 

The evening was opened with a hilarious sketch by Dawn French’s Vicar of Dibley doing her best Lizzo impression, larking around on a video call to hit tune Juice.

Making sure to bring the laughs, Dawn showed off her dance moves and shook her Toblerone tubes along to the music before the hosts of the night were introduced. 

Paddy McGuinness, Davina, Alesha, David Tennant and Lenny Henry are presenting the comic charity event, however it was Lenny who caught the attention of many on Twitter.

Dozens of viewers commented on how ‘good he looked’ with others adding that he was looking rather thin. Writing on social media, one fan wrote: ‘How does Lenny Henry look younger everytime I see him!? #ComicRelief’

With another remarking: ‘didn’t even recognise Lenny Henry, he’s lost so much weight’

Lenny, 62, put on a dapper display as he took to the socially distanced stage in a grey suit and shirt, quickly joking around with his fellow co-hosts.

And the laughs kept on coming during the evening with the Top Gear hosts being grilled by children for one funny sketch. 

Freddie Flintoff was left grinning after one child, called Lenny, asked if the trio were ‘goof at any sports?’, with the former cricketer replying: ‘I know cricket’s niche, but come on Lenny!’

Paddy also revealed a few cheeky details from his home life, admitting he blames his three children when he ‘pumps’ at home and win Christine asks where the bad smell has come from.

He also admitted that he was ‘put on the naughty step’ after crashing the Lamborghini Diablo last year.

All three hosts were also left giggling when another child asked what they’d do ‘if they had to get a real job’.

Cheeky! When asked ‘who’s the most untalented person you’ve ever seen on BGT?’, David Walliams quickly replied: ‘Simon Cowell, he just sits there and says no to people!’

David Walliams was also questioned by children via video link all in the name of raising money for charity, with the star making a cheeky dig at his BGT co-judge Simon Cowell.

When asked ‘who’s the most untalented person you’ve ever seen on BGT?’, David quickly replied: ‘Simon Cowell, he just sits there and says no to people!’.

Viewers of Comic Relief were also treated to a parody trailer of 2020 The Movie, which boasted a very star-studded cast.

Matt Lucas was seen playing Gary Barlow while Ainsley Harriot starred as Marcus Rashford.

While Carey Mulligan was also seen playing a stay-at-home mum who was at the end of her tether after being in lockdown for months with her children.

Special appearance: Dr Who’s Jodie Whittikar and Mandip Gill also appeared as NHS doctors, joking that they had to rush around the ward to catch The Great British Bake Off on TV

Al Murray also made a cameo as the pub landlord, joking about the changing rules on when Brits can get into their local boozer for a pint.

Later in the night, Normal People star’s Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones also showed their support for Comic Relief as they appeared in a hilarious film alongside Fleabag’s Hot Priest, Andrew Scott.

Paul, playing his character Connell, was seen chatting to Andrew in a confessional about his communication troubles with Daisy’s Marianne.

However in a funny twist Daisy then also started a confessional on the other side of the booth admitting she’d stolen something – hilariously producing Connell’s chain.

In another twist, the trio then all started singing Boyzone’s tune Words.

Twitter users were blown away by Paul’s vocal talents, with the actor easily nailing each note and performing for the camera.

To finish the impressive sketch, Andrew’s Hot Priest was seen walking away from the church with Connell’s chain, which has become quite the cult item, in his hand.

The evening was also filled with some music treats, with the cast of West End musical Back To The Future giving a special performance jam-packed with some timely Covid jokes.

And The Marsh Family, who went viral in previous lockdowns with their videos, also performed a rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart followed by Justin Bieber who rocked a pink cardigan while singing his latest single. 

Harry Styles’ video to Treat People With Kindness was also shown alongside a series of clips from the nation boogying along to the feel-good tune. 

Elsewhere on the night, Matt Lucas styled as Gary Barlow joined the real-life Take That star to make their own version of The Crooner Sessions. 

However after duetting Matt was less than impressed with the singer’s dulcet tones, telling him: ‘You’ve ruined it, out of tune, ruined that like you ruined my life… Actually I’ll blame this pandemic on you. You’ve made it worse!’

Another stand-out moment from the night saw Oti Mabuse join a slew of stars including Ant and Dec and Sophie Ellis-Bextor in recreating Bridget Jones’ heartbreak scene in a hilarious spoof video for Comic Relief.

In scenes aired on Friday night, the Strictly star, 30, sat on a mountain of clothes as she sang her heart out to All By Myself. Oti imitated guzzling a bottle of wine as she held up a water bottle while lip-syncing to the track.

Meanwhile, Mel Giedroyc, 52, looked the spitting image of Renee Zellwegger’s character as she sat on her sofa in Christmas pyjamas with a tissue stuffed up her nose.

Mel was also seen lounging on the sofa during one of Joe Wicks’ workouts, declaring ‘everyones bored of your bunny hops mate give it a rest’ as she ate a slice of pizza and chatted to her Bake Off pal Sue Perkins. 

BBC bosses even managed to get Friends actor David Schwimmer, 54, to take part in the parody.

The Crooner Sessions: Elsewhere on the night, Matt Lucas styled as Gary Barlow joined the real-life Take That star to make their own version of The Crooner Sessions

A host of A-List stars also grouped together for Jack Whitehall’s sketch on the woes of a year of using Zoom and video calls with multiple people.

Idris Elba, Kiera Knightley, Jonathan Ross and Anya Taylor-Joy were all seen trying to log into the call before Olivia Colman also hopped onto the call – late.

After all realising they’d forgotten their Red Noses, leaving host Jack rather frustrated, the call ended with Hugh Grant appearing and joking: ‘Sorry everyone, am I late?’

And although being filled with funny sketches and entertaining scenes, the night also highlighted the important work funded by the money raised by Comic Relief.

Host David Tennant even got a little emotional after watching a touching montage of the past year set to tune Sunshine on Leith.

Getting a bit choked up as he started to speak, the actor told viewers: ‘None of us would have seen this year coming- all the suffering and sacrifice- but also kindness and love.’

Also joining the celebrity-filled show was singer Charlotte Church, who looked sensational as she put on a busty display in a sparkling nude dress.

The star, who recently confirmed the birth of her third child, was seen on stage as she helped five comedians perform an opera song.

Alex Booker, Jennifer Saunders, Andi Osho, Jayne Adams, and Caroline Quentin were tested to their limits when they agreed to learn an aria in just 24 hours for charity.

And the comics had nothing to worry about as they managed to smash their performance on the night, leaving Charlotte beaming with their efforts.
