Coleen Nolan sets record straight on Loose Women exit after ‘toxic’ claims

Coleen Nolan has addressed why she previously quit Loose Women after claims that the daytime show is a “toxic environment”.

The star, who has been with the ITV show since 2000, has seen a string of long-term panellists leave the show over her 23-year stint, but Coleen, 58, said her previous departure had nothing to do with any of her co-hosts.

Slamming claims that the panellists are “at war”, Coleen said: “It’s relentless, and I think it’s very sad because there seems to be a lot of women bashing other women.

“They go on about ‘Oh it’s toxic’, it’s been running for 24 years or something, if it was that toxic, trust me, being the person I am, I wouldn’t be there.

“I left for a year, years ago, because I wasn’t enjoying it. But that had nothing to do with the panel that was to do with more to do with people behind the scenes at the time,” she added to The Mirror.

Coleen continued: “I thought ‘I’m not enjoying this’ and I took a break from it and did other things… So I think it’s really sad that people feel they have to knock it and that show in particular, the one show that’s so representative of women…

“I don’t know why they’re so determined to knock it all the time, maybe it’s jealousy.”

In 2011, Coleen announced that she was departing the show so she could concentrate on other TV programmes.

The presenter said at the time: “I’ve had the most amazing 10 years since I started doing Loose Women but I wanted to leave on a high.”

Creative director of ITV Daytime and Lifestyle Fiona Keenaghan also said at the time: “We have loved working with Coleen for the last 10 years and can’t thank her enough for the huge contribution she has made to the success of Loose Women.

“She remains part of the ITV daytime family and we look forward to working with her on other projects.”

Panellists Carol McGiffin, who last appeared in March this year, and Saira Khan, left the ITV show in 2021. Carol, 63, opened up about the reason why she left the long-running show, claiming that she wasn’t allowed to express her views.

During a GB News interview with Dan Wootton, she claimed: “I can say that over the last three years especially I’ve been…I wouldn’t say censored, but I have been restricted in what I could say.”
