Chuck Todd, who has hosted NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ since 2014, will leave the show to focus on long-term projects and his family, he announced today.

The longtime host announced at the conclusion of his broadcast Sunday that he will leave the NBC show in coming months in an attempt to learn from political leaders he’s interviewed over the years he claims ‘overstay their welcome’.

Todd, 51, will be replaced by NBC host Kristen Welker, 46.

‘While today is not my final show, this is going to be my final summer here at Meet the Press,’ Todd said. ‘I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade.’

NBC’s Meet the Press host Chuck Todd announced Sunday he will leave the show to focus on long-term projects and his family

The announcement came after he interviewed Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, Republican Sen. Mike Rounds and former Trump attorney Timothy Parlatore.

‘I’ve loved so much of this job – helping to explain America to Washington and explain Washington to America,’ he reminisced.

‘The key to survival of any of these incredible media entities, including here at Meet the Press, is for leaders not to overstay their welcome,’ he added. ‘I’d rather leave a little bit too soon than stay a tad bit too long.’

The NBC host announced that he has more projects in the future, including more with NBC News.

Todd said his new project are aimed at ‘trying to educate the public better, bridge our divides and pierce our political bubbles.’

He will stay on with NBC News in his new role of Chief Political Analyst.

A memo to staff notes: ‘In his new position as Chief Political Analyst, he will maintain his role as a leading voice at NBC News for politics, both in the field and for important events. He plans to focus on long-form journalism and continue producing the ‘Chuck Toddcast’ and ‘Meet the Press Reports.’

Todd said in the live announcement of his departure from the show that he will focus a lot of his newfound time on his family – wife Kristian Denny, who he married in 2001, and their two children Harrison and Margaret.
