Cardi B Apologizes For Coretta Scott King Portrayal

Earlier this week, a short clip of Rip Michaels‘ new show, Off The Rip was leaked on TMZ, featuring Cardi B playing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s wife, Coretta Scott King.

Many sentiments conveyed in the clip were deemed offensive by several members of the King family, and Cardi B subsequently faced heavy backlash for her portrayal.

“On the 55th anniversary of #IHaveADream,’ a clip on @TMZ depicts my parents (Cardi B playing my mom) & great women of the CRM in a repulsive, false light,” wrote Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a tweet which has since been deleted.

Rip Michaels responded to it by releasing a short video clip on Twitter, in which he says that the blame, if any, should be put on him, not Cardi; “Going after Cardi and attacking Cardi makes no sense to me. Cardi B is a rapper, a mother, and now a comedic actress. And it’s super funny, okay. If you have a problem with that, address me and my team,” he said.

It has now been revealed that Cardi B reached out to the King family privately to apologize for the offensive clip, to which Bernice King responded with a public tweet, saying: “Thank you, @iamcardib, for reaching out to me and apologizing for the skit that aired on @TMZ. I look forward to talking with you soon.”
