Has Judge Brett Kavanaugh‘s quest to be confirmed to the Supreme Court hit another bump in the road?
On Saturday, his accuser Christine Blasey Ford said she would accept the Senate Judiciary Committee’s request to testify about an alleged sexual assault by him that she claims took place about 35 years ago.
Kavanaugh has staunchly denied the allegations.
After a high-stakes negotiation, Ford’s lawyers said in a letter to the committee that she “accepts” the request to provide “her first-hand knowledge of Brett Kavanaugh’s” alleged “sexual misconduct” next week.

Ford, 51, a California professor, reportedly would like to testify on Thursday, but the details of her appearance are still up in the air.
Ford met a 2:30 p.m. Saturday deadline set by Republicans for her to say whether or not she would testify.
Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley had said the Senate would vote on 53-year-old Kavanaugh’s confirmation if Ford didn’t make the deadline.
Democrats decried Republicans for allegedly pressuring Ford, and many liberal Senators flatly said they believed her allegations against Kavanaugh.

In the letter, Ford’s lawyers told the committee, “many aspects of the proposal you provided … are fundamentally inconsistent with the Committee’s promise of a fair, impartial investigation into her allegations.”
Still, it seems she will appear next week, in a move sure to echo the faceoff of Anita Hill accusing Judge Clarence Thomas in a previous controversial confirmation battle. (Thomas was ultimately confirmed and remains on the Supreme Court).
Republican Utah Senator Orrin Hatch, was pessimistic, tweeting that “we are no closer to hearing from Dr. Ford than we were when her lawyers said Dr. Ford was willing to testify during their media tour 6 days ago.”
As Radar previously reported, Ford, the woman who wrote a letter accusing Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh of sexual assault, later went public with her story in a shocking Washington Post interview.

Ford claimed Kavanaugh viciously attacked her years ago and “I thought he might inadvertently kill me.” “He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”
While admitting that she doesn’t recall some key details of the incident, Ford told the newspaper that she believes Kavanaugh allegedly attacked her in the summer of 1982, when she was 15, around the end of her sophomore year at the all-girls Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland.
Kavanaugh would have been 17 at the end of his junior year at Georgetown Prep.
Ford claimed that she and other kids drank beer together at the private home and that Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, had started drinking earlier and were already intoxicated.

Ford said tried to go to the bathroom, when she was allegedly pushed into a bedroom and onto a bed; she was wearing clothes over a one-piece bathing suit.
She contended that Kavanaugh then grinded down on her with his body and drunkenly fumbled with her clothes.
Meanwhile, Judge stood across the room as both he and Kavanaugh were laughing, Ford alleged.
Kavanaugh allegedly put his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

Ford claimed Judge jumped on top of them, and she tried to break free.
Because Judge sent them tumbling, she eventually got away, locked herself in the bathroom and listened until she heard the boys “going down the stairs, hitting the walls.”
When the coast was clear, Ford claimed, she fled the house.
Kavanaugh continues to deny the allegations (as does his friend Judge), and President Donald Trump is standing by his nominee.
