Happy Birthday 2U! Bono celebrates his 61st by the river in London with celebrity chums including The Edge, Damien Hirst and Stella McCartney
He has been denied crowds during the pandemic, but Bono still managed to assemble an impressive gathering for his 61st birthday bash last week.
The U2 singer arrived for a celebratory lunch at the River Café in Hammersmith, West London, with his wife Ali and 29-year-old actress daughter Eve Hewson, who recently starred in the Netflix series Behind Her Eyes.
Two of Bono’s bandmates were there to mark the occasion. True to form, guitarist The Edge – rarely seen in public without some kind of headgear – turned up in a baseball cap, and bass player Adam Clayton, accompanied by his Brazilian wife Mariana, sported a new look featuring a bushy white beard, topknot and cream-coloured ensemble.

The band’s drummer Larry Mullen Jr wasn’t spotted, but other attendees included Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis, designer John Rocha, artist Damien Hirst with his girlfriend Sophie Cannell and property tycoon Paddy McKillen.
A source said: ‘On the surface, it could appear that Bono and his entourage took a fairly liberal interpretation of the Rule of Six regulations, but no doubt all the correct protocols were followed once inside.’
Presents arrived from Selfridges, Burford Garden Company and Ms McCartney’s fashion house.
Afterwards, Bono and Ali, 60, chatted to River Café owner Ruth Rogers.
