Blake Lively will join Ryan Reynolds in Wrexham to celebrate promotion

So that’s why they weren’t at the Met Gala! Blake Lively will join Ryan Reynolds in Wrexham for an open top bus parade to celebrate the non-league club’s promotion

Blake Lively is set to join her husband Ryan Reynolds at an open top bus parade in Wrexham on Tuesday evening, after the couple missed Monday’s Met Gala.

The actress took to Instagram hours before the swanky event to confirm she wouldn’t be attending, and it’s now been revealed she’ll be joining the actor at the town’s celebration.

Last month Wrexham made history by earning promotion back into the English Football League, after Ryan and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in 2020.

The team’s journey to promotion has earned worldwide attention, with viewers rejoicing when they finally earned promotion with a 3-1 victory over Borehamwood.

Blake is set to join Ryan on the open top bus parade, which will begin at the Racecourse Ground at 6:15pm before undergoing its tour of the city.

Speaking to Access Hollywood at a screening of Welcome to Wrexham in Los Angeles, Ryan and his wife Blake were quizzed about what they were planning to get up to after they confirmed they would be skipping the Met Gala this year.

To which Ryan replied: ‘We’ll be in the UK. We have Wrexham business to deal with.’

And when asked about Wrexham’s incredible season this year, Ryan added: ‘I’m still a little, to be totally frank, speechless about it.

‘So many things had to go right that involved dumb luck in addition to obviously putting in a strong foundation.

‘A lot of things went right. Things we never expected.

‘Like another team being incredible this entire season, which created such a tension in not just Wrexham but globally for everyone watching Wrexham. It’s been a pretty remarkable journey.’

On his The Always Sunny podcast, McElhenney also confirmed that he was flying into Wrexham for 24 hours to make the bus tour.

Blake and Ryan were noticeably absent from the Met Gala, with the actress previously stunning with her incredible looks at the event.

This year’s dress code for the fashion extravaganza was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty – paying tribute to the controversial German fashion designer, known for his work with Chanel, who passed away in 2019.

But Blake Lively’s absence was so widely noted that she was trending on Twitter after her previous Met Gala looks were lauded year after year.

Fans tweeted: ‘There is no Met Gala without Blake Lively’ sharing her past fashion masterpieces on social media.

During the grand reopening of Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue store, she told the press that instead of gracing the carpet, she’ll be watching from home.

According to Glamour, after a reporter complimented her 2022 look, she replied, ‘Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.’

Blake and her husband Ryan have attended the event for years, with the actress serving as a co-chair at last year’s In America: An Anthology of Fashion–themed gala, arriving in a stunning Versace gown inspired by the Statue of Liberty.

But Blake and Ryan welcomed their fourth child together earlier this year and Blake only returned to the red carpet earlier this week.

Blake has previously shown her support for Ryan and the Wrexham team by attending several matches, and in March the couple were joined by their four children as they attended the club’s match against York City.

In May 2022, the couple watched Wrexham take on Bromley during the Buildbase FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in London.

In August last year Ryan revealed his wife was not particularly happy when he told her the he had bought the team with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Rob.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said: ‘I remember seeing Blake, saying, ‘I have bad news and I have really bad news. I slipped into someone’s DMs again. The really bad news is that I might have bought half of a fifth tier national football league in Wales.”

Ryan and Rob have insisted Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson will take the lead on any new transfers as the club prepare for life back in the English Football League.

This is despite a tongue-in-cheek offer for former Wales captain Gareth Bale to sign for the club as they prepare for life in League Two next season.

Promotion was achieved last month after Wrexham’s 3-1 win over Boreham Wood at the Racecourse Ground, ending a 15-year spell in the non-league.

McElhenney and Reynolds were seen on the pitch after the Wrexham players had lifted the National League trophy, having triumphed in a closely fought promotion race against Notts County.
