Bindi Irwin is experiencing unexpected heartache ahead of the arrival of her first child, a daughter, with husband Chandler Powell.
The Wildlife Warrior, 22, revealed her distress about a member of Australia Zoo undergoing ‘life-saving surgery’ in a post to Instagram on Thursday.
‘Today I got to spend time with beautiful Kate the koala,’ the soon-to-be first-time mother wrote alongside a picture of the marsupial on a ventilator.

‘She arrived at our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after she was attacked by a dog.
‘The team discovered that she had severe injuries to her torso, preventing her from breathing properly.
‘After receiving life-saving surgery to repair her injuries, she is now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit.’
Bindi then detailed Kate being a mother to ‘a little joey in her pouch’, which she ‘bravely protected’ from the dog attack.

‘Now Kate and her baby will remain in care until they are ready to return to the wild. Please send good vibes as they continue to heal,’ she wrote.
Her heartbreaking post comes just weeks before Bindi is expected to give birth to her first child, a daughter, with 24-year-old Chandler.
The couple announced their pregnancy news five months after they got married at Australia Zoo in March 2020.

Bindi posted a photo of her and Chandler on Instagram where they were holding up a baby-sized version of their Australia Zoo outfits.
‘Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021. Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you,’ she wrote.
‘Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter. We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives.’
