‘She has to WIN!’: Britain’s Got Talent fans back oldest EVER contestant Nora Barton, 96, who has Alzheimer’s, as she thrills judges and viewers with charming performance

Britain’s Got Talent returned for another round of auditions on Saturday night, with 10 acts hoping to impress the judges.

And one act that certainly did that was 96-year-old Nora Barton, who is the ITV show’s oldest ever auditionee and fulfilled her dream of performing at the London Palladium.

Nora, who has Alzheimer’s, left the judges, audience and viewers thrilled with her utterly charming performance, with fans at home declaring she should win the show.

Ahead of her performance, Nora already had fans tickled as after host Ant McPartlin asked: ‘What are you doing for us today’, she cheekily replied: ‘nowt!’ 

Nora was helped on stage by Ant, with her daughter Pam Dimbleby, 65, who accompanied her, remarking that it was a dream for her mother to play there. 

The great-grandmother once again had everyone in giggles as Amanda Holden asked: ‘How long have you been playing the piano?’, with Nora replying: ‘Not me!’ 

Dressed to impress in shimmering red top, floral skirt and a flower in her hair, Nora then belted out The Loveliest Night Of The Year from 1951 film The Great Caruso, with Pam playing along on piano.

After wowing with her audition, she was left thrilled as she was given a standing ovation, with Nora saying ‘thank you very much!’

Then, as David Walliams began to give his verdict, Nora had difficultly locating him on the judging desk, with her daughter Pam assisting her by pointing him out.

He then told her: ‘You are a very special lady because you are full of life, full of laughter, full of joy and you’ve just entertained the nation at 96.’

While Alesha Dixon declared: ‘Once a show woman, always a show woman! I really enjoyed that whole performance, it was just completely charming! Congratulations Nora!’

Amanda told her: ‘It was a very special audition Nora. You are the generation that this country is built on, so a very well done and thank you.’

Meanwhile, Simon Cowell dared to rock the boat as he bluntly declared: ‘I didn’t like you very much’, causing the audience to boo and Nora to pout in disagreement.

However, in typical Simon style, he was only kidding as he quickly added: ‘I loved you!’, much to Nora’s pleasure.

As the judges gave their results, she left them in stitches with her wit and infectious charm, with the judges giving her four very easy yeses.

Following her audition, viewers took to Twitter where they swiftly declared that Nora should be crowned the 2020 winner of Britain’s Got Talent.

While another remarked: ‘OMG! I think she’s the winner! Such a lovely lady with a beautiful voice. We have Colin, now we need Nora. The Royal family would adore her.’

A third gushed: ‘Nora on BGT is melting my heart she’s so adorable.’ 

While a fourth person said: ‘Nora has my respect, 96 and still a better singer than me, she’s so good!’

‘Is Nora not just the cutest little thing you’ve ever seen? That’s gold buzzer worthy! Nora for the win!’ declared a fifth.

With a another person agreeing: ‘Oh my heart – #Nora has to win Britain’s Got Talent!’

Britain’s Got Talent continues Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
