Best and worst dressed at Venice Film Festival – fashion highs and lows

The 75th Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday night with a star studded opening ceremony at the Sala Grande.

Guaranteed to attract an A-list crowd the great and the good from the movie industry descending on Venice for 12 days of red carpet glamour.

Big names included Emma Stone, Claire Foy, Ryan Gosling, Clemence Poesy and Olivia Hamilton.

While we’re pretty sure the dress code didn’t require it, there were 50 shades of pink on display at the First Man premiere with Noami Watts, Lottie Moss, Claire Foy and Olivia Hamilton showcasing different hues.

The current trend for trouser suits also made an appearance with Charlotte Le Bon, Naomi Watts and Trine Dyrholm showcasing suitably stylish looks.

Pretty in pink

Naomi Watts

The 49-year-old Australian actress, who is on this year’s jurors panel, looked ultra feminine a strapless pink tiered dress from the Armani Prive Fall 2018 Couture collection. With her blonde shoulder length locks worn in loose curls she looked effortlessly chic.

Lottie Moss

Kate Moss’s little sister looked stunning in a strapless tulle gown with a thigh high split by Ermanno Scervino. The bespoke gown was a real showstopper and 20-year-old Lottie has clearly learned a thing or two about making an entrance.

Claire Foy

The gorgeous star of the ‘The Crown’ and ‘First Man’ opted for a dramatic gown from the Valentino Fall 2018 couture collection. Her unique gown consisted a pink dress with a fitted bodice and a draped wool cape style overlay in red. With her hair slicked back in a dramatic side parting she looked incredible.

Olivia Hamilton

The actress and writer opted for full on glamour in a dramatic pale pink J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2018 gown for the ‘First Man’ premier. With a full tulle skirt and intricate floral lace bodice she oozed Hollywood glamour.

Suited and booted

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts arrived at the Jury photocell dressed in a chic but relaxed looking white suit by Georgia Armani. Naomi wore a deleted sheer blouse underneath her jacket and accessorised with a pair of gold courts.

Charlotte Le Bon

The stunning 31-year-old French Canadian actress, model and TV presenter arrived at the ‘First Man’ premier wearing a blue and white patterned Dior trouser suit. The playful print stood out against the red carpet and with her longhair worn in a side parting she looked striking.

The best of the rest

Emma Stone

Emma, 29, was first spotted stepping out of the Hotel Excelsior wearing a matching Fendi blouse and skirt ensemble. Her outfit was from the Fendi Resort 2019 collection and she accessorised with a pair or white ankle strap Fendi shoes.

For ‘The Favourite’ photocall she wore a silver mini wrap skirt with a textured silver blouse by Louis Vuitton. With her trademark red hair worn over one shoulder Emma looked effortless and stylish.

Izabel Goulart

Brazilian bombshell and Victoria’s Secret Angel Goulart, 33, sizzled in a silver Alberta Ferretti gown that was slashed to the navel. With her hair worn to one side in dramatic curls she finished off her red carpet look with statement diamond earrings. The girl is as good on the red carpet as she is on the runway. Top marks.

Sara Sampaio

The Portuguese model, 27, channelled old Hollywood glamour in white strapless Armani Prive gown fish tail gown with ornate bow detail. With her hair swept back off her face and with a bright red lip she looked like a true Hollywood starlett.

Carolina Crescentini

The 38-year-old Italian actress opted for a statement monochrome Gucci gown embellished with a silver diamond star motifs. The batwing gown was cinched in at the waist with a full black skirt. Bellissimo.

Our least favourite looks

Claire Foy

Having slam dunked it on the red carpet in pink and red Valentino we weren’t as quite as excited about Claire’s ‘First Man’ photocell outfit. And it was Chanel. Sadly it didn’t pack much of a punch on the red carpet and wasn’t one of our favourites.

Clemence Poesy

We love the 35-year-old’s look and the French actress never puts a foot wrong in the style stakes. But her tweed Erdem gown with a sweet heart neckline wasn’t one of her strongest looks. The dress looked better when it moved, but sadly it didn’t photograph very well. We blame the tricky hemline.

Barbara Palvin

The 24-year-old Hungarian model put on a very leggy display in ruched mini dress by Armani Prive. While she looked undeniably stunning but we weren’t the biggest fans of the frock.
