Bat signal shines out over 11 cities to celebrate 80 years of the comic book her

Thousands of fans gathered on September 21 to see their city transformed into Gotham for one night as the Bat signal shone to mark eighty years of Batman.

From New York – the birthplace of the Batman comics – to down under – in Melbourne, Australia – eleven cities on six continents experienced the ‘once in a lifetime moment’ as the Bat signal lit up on one of their buildings.

The Bat signal was of course popularly used by Commissioner Gordon in the comics to call the Caped Crusader into action when major trouble in the city arises.

The special event was to mark the anniversary of the first Batman comic released in 1929 with other cities to experience the Bat signal at 8pm local time including London, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, São Paulo, Los Angeles, Montreal, Johannesburg and Mexico City.

Fans of the franchise didn’t miss the opportunity to dress up as caped crusader Bruce Wayne as they gathered around the world to see a real life Bat signal.

While some fans dressed up as Batman himself, others chose to wear the cloaks and costumes of Robin, Harley Quinn, The Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, and Penguin.

According to Hypebeast, there were also different types of celebrations that happened on the big day such as Batman-themed marathon runs, autograph signings by comic book artists such as Jim Lee and concerts.
