Ashley Olsen takes a cigarette break outside The Row offices in NYC… as sister Mary-Kate’s divorce petition from Olivier Sarkozy is denied

Her sister Mary-Kate Olsen has just had her emergency petition for divorce from husband Olivier Sarkozy denied, triggering what could be the start of a messy legal battle.

So it’s no surprise to see Ashley Olsen holding down the fort at the offices of their fashion label The Row in New York City on Sunday.

Ashley, 33, appeared to be very dressed down for work as she took what was perhaps a much-needed cigarette break amid all the controversy occurring in her sister’s personal life right now.

The fashion entrepreneur looked cozy in an oversized ensemble, as she took a drag from her cigarette after slipping down her face mask and wearing latex gloves.

Ashley’s sister Mary-Kate had claimed her 50-year-old husband is kicking her out of the apartment they share in the city, giving her only a few days to find a new home amid the coronavirus lockdown.

But last week, a Manhattan judge denied the Full House star’s request, ruling it wasn’t an essential matter.

She explained that Sarkozy, whom she married in 2015, had terminated the lease on their shared residence without her consent.

In her emergency petition filed last Wednesday, Mary-Kate stated: ‘I am petrified that my husband is trying to deprive me of the home we have lived in and if he is successful, I will not only lose my home but I risk losing my personal property as well.’

In her divorce papers, Mary-Kate asked the court to uphold the terms of the prenuptial agreement she and Sarkozy signed.

She is seeking the continued use of their home in The Hamptons, their apartment in New York’s Gramercy neighborhood and an apartment on East 49th Street in the city.

She is also requesting that her ex continue to provide her with health and dental insurance.

Mary-Kate first submitted her divorce petition on April 17 stating that her marriage had irretrievably broken down.

However, the fashion designer and avid equestrienne was told that New York City courts are not accepting divorce petitions during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has to date caused the deaths of more than 21,000 New Yorkers.

Mary-Kate then filed a request for an emergency order for the divorce papers to be accepted and for the court to proceed with her petition, adding that she and Sarkozy had been separated ‘for at least six months’.

She had explained that she is unable to ‘look for another apartment right now, let alone retrieve my separate property belongings and am gravely concerned my husband will dissipate, dispose of and / or secret.’

Don’t take my money! Ashley’s sister Mary-Kate has also asked that their prenuptial agreement be enforced, and that Sarkozy maintain health and dental insurance for her

Mary-Kate has been married to Olivier – whose half-brother is Nicolas Sarkozy, former President of France – since 2015.

They tied the knot at a private home in Manhattan in front of 50 guests who were offered ‘bowls and bowls filled with cigarettes, and everyone smoked the whole night’.

The couple began dating in 2012 and first sparked engagement rumors when Mary-Kate stepped out wearing a giant ring on her ring finger at the start of 2014.

In 2014, Mary-Kate told WSJ magazine: ‘Everyone has an opinion. I find it’s better to focus on what’s in front of you and to keep putting one foot in front of the other.’

Mary-Kate and Olivier did not have any children together.

Olivier already has two teenage children – Julien and Margot – whom he had with ex-wife Charlotte Bernard.
