Ariana Grande Shares Statement on Mac Miller’s Death Without Words

After disabling the comments on her Instagram feed when trolls began uploading posts blaming her for Mac Miller’s death, Ariana Grande shared her own statement on the tragic loss of her ex-boyfriend and longtime collaborator. And she did it without words.

Ariana simply posted a personal picture of Mac from happier days. The black and white photograph shows Mac sitting wide-eyed on a grassy field looking up at the person taking the picture; one can see the small sneakers of the photographer as well in the photo, suggesting that the photographer – and the person that Mac is looking up at — is Ariana.

Since the announcement of Mac’s death from a suspected overdose on Friday, many of his fans have taken to social media to blame Ariana’s breakup with him — or her subsequent engagement to comedian Pete Davidson — as reason’s for his death. But Mac was open in interviews about his struggle with substance abuse since the success of his debut album when he was only 20, and a large number of Ariana’s fans have also defended her on the Internet as innocent in Mac’s death.

As two young stars, Ariana and Mac were friends and collaborators for years, and they first worked together on Ariana’s early breakthrough hit “The Way,” Only much later, did the two become a couple when they started dating in 2016. Another high point for their private/public collaboration was when the two
at Ariana’s One Love Manchester concert in May of last year. But the couple split not long after, and it was later more or less confirmed by Ariana on social media that Mac’s struggle with sobriety was major contributing factor in the breakup.
