In an interview on Nicki Minaj’s Queen Radio, rapper Tyga did not hesitate at all claiming that he helped set up his ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner for her current success. When Nicki asked him, point blank, “if you think you helped at all” with getting Kylie established in her career, Tyga responded, “Everybody know that! It’s public. We ain’t going to run from that.”
Nicki then pressed him. “I don’t know about that … a lot of men say stuff like that, Tyga,” she said. “But what about all the work that this person is doing as well for their career?”
However, Tyga did not step back from his view of his own importance in creating a social media mogul out of his ex.
You gotta look at the before and after. She always had a platform and she was always destined to be what she was going to be regardless. But when I stepped in, there was a lot of codes being taught. It was like, you could do this, you should start this, you should start doing your hair like this, you should add that because you need black people to f**k with you … if you ain’t got black people behind you, you ain’t got nothing.”
He also seemed to say that he was even involved in coming up with Kylie’s cosmetics line. The rapper continued, suggesting that he was modest for not claiming more credit than he was doing in the interview.
I had a lot to do with all that, which I don’t need credit for … I don’t need to go online and tell people I did this and I’m the one that helped her coming up with these colors and names on her…what is it, the lip line things? It was a lot of stuff.”
Some fans of Kylie felt that Nicki was being shady towards Kylie for bringing Tyga on her show in the first place, even though Nicki seemed to defend Kylie pretty strongly as a woman who made her own success. On the other hand, it seemed a bit more likely that Nicki brought Tyga on to her show in an attempt to stir up trouble between Tyga and Kylie’s current boyfriend, Travis Scott.
However, at least on that front, Tyga did not seem to want to take Nicki’s bait. When asked about Travis, the “Taste” rapper simply said he had “no beef” with Travis.
