Alice Evans surprised her Instagram followers on Thursday as she praised Lily James’ acting skills in an Instagram post – despite the actress controversially enjoying a cosy weekend away with her married co-star.
Alice, 53, has accused her estranged husband Ioan Gruffudd, 48, of being unfaithful to her with actress Bianca Wallace, 29, and was recently slapped with a restraining order after she sent 113 pages of ‘threatening’ texts and emails which referenced his new love.
In 2020, Lily, 32, famously hit the headlines when she and married Dominic West, 51, were pictured putting on an affectionate display in Rome. While Lily has never publicly addressed the scandal, Dominic and his wife Catherine Fitzgerald put on a public display of unity, releasing a statement about their ‘strong’ marriage.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Alice heaped praise on Lily for her role as Pamela Anderson in Pam & Tommy, penning: ‘It’s is da bomb. Particularly because of @lilyjamesofficial.
‘I remember hearing a way back that the stunning but very posh and British actress had been cast as Pamela Anderson I was somewhat confused.
‘Really?? But lily, I doubt you will ever read this, your performance is so brilliant, so studied, so worked on, so pitch freaking-perfect whilst retaining i life of its own, that I could not take my eyes off you for a second. You WERE Pam. And I adored you as her. [sic]’
Fans were quick to comment their surprise at the post, with one commentator writing: ‘She slept with a married man.’

Alice responded: ‘I know and ( as you can imagine I am 1000% against that. However i found myself asking ‘can we celebrate a wonderful performance whilst at the same time disapproving of the performers real-Life behavior and I would like to think I can.
‘( i haven’t been put in that situation yet – and god knows how I would react in my own situation but my ‘ideal Alice’ would like to think she could separate the two!
‘Hope this doesn’t offend anyone in my situation!! Remember you can reply or DM me anytime. I would hate to hurt anyone or make them feel I am not on their side! ❤️❤️’
She was called out for her response, with a fan responding: ‘I am surprised Alice, it kinda feels like you are saying it’s really not ok that it happened to me but it’s ok if it happens to someone else and I’ll actively support them.’

Alice was quick to clarify: ‘God no. Not all all. I’m saying we should allow appreciation of artistic talent to be as separate as possible from what we know of the artist. ( people managed with Picasso pretty well!) as I say in one of the responses I cannot predict how I would feel if I were the wife of the person this actress had slept with, but nonetheless I try to keep an open mind – that if she were to make a brilliant film I would be able to judge her/it on its merits and not let my feelings about the actress affect me. I know! It’s very idealistic! But one can but try! [sic]’
Another comment read: ‘I’m surprised you like her!’ as Alice responded saying she felt sympathetic due to the trolling she got from Ioan’s fans when she first started dating him.
She said: ‘I know but hear me out: When the online trolls started going after me in 2005 because they didn’t think I was right for ioan, they were so awful about my acting skills, and I ended up believing them! I lost all my confidence. ( it didn’t help that the hub was too scared to lose fans so didn’t stick up for me but the point is: I LEARNED A LESSON.
‘I dont know why they were hating on me. I still don’t. I have never, ever slept with another woman’s husband nor will I. I have never abused a person nor will I. But seeing such an incredible performance from Lily I felt compelled to give credit where credits is due. It’s the way I’ve always felt.

As the commenter admitted they had been left ‘devastated’ by their own husband cheating on them, Alice responded: ‘I still haven’t gotten over mine even though I am over the man himself. It was such a shock. Sending love ❤️❤️’
The comments come after Alice claimed that herself and her daughters ‘will be homeless in two months’, amid her legal battle with Ioan.
The actress shared the update as she alleged that her children, Ella, 12, and Elsie, eight, will be losing ‘the only house they have ever known.’
Alongside a photo she penned: ‘Rough, rough day today. The girls and I found out we are going to lose the only house they have ever known. In two months we will be homeless.’
‘I hesitated about sharing, because when your ex has paid good money to have you gagged and you risk jail by speaking out. (Communist China, anyone?) it gets really scary.’
She continued: ‘But driving home tonight after hacking dropped both girls at different play dates/ parties, arranged to pick them up, been told how much they’ll miss me and that they can’t wait to have ‘family day at home’ tomorrow, I feel the tears starting again. Tears of fear. Tears of the possibility of breaking their hearts.
‘They love this house. It wouldn’t be the end of the world. We can find a condo to rent somewhere I’m sure. Just feeling wistful tonight! Bear with me, I’ll be back! I promise!’

Alice had applied for legal and physical custody of her children following her legal battle. In court documents obtained by People, the actress asked that visitation rights be granted to Ioan.
She also requested ‘spousal support, termination of the court’s ability to award spousal support to Ioan, and for her attorney fees to be paid by her estranged husband’, while citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for their split.
The 102 Dalmatians star previously asked the court to determine the rights to their family home in Los Angeles.
Ioan had been married to Alice for 14 years before he filed for divorce in March last year, later applying for a restraining order in February 2022.
Alice and Ioan confirmed their split in a series of furious tweets posted in January 2021.
She has since documented every toxic turn in their subsequent divorce proceedings across social media, and repeatedly slated him for being in a relationship with Bianca Wallace.
