‘Alec refused gun safety training, is in complete denial and blaming others’: Lawyer Halyna Hutchins’ family turns up pressure on Baldwin after filing wrongful death lawsuit

Alec Baldwin stepped out in New York City with a few of his children and wife Hilaria following a wrongful death suit filed by the family of Halyna Hutchins who was killed on the Rust set in October.
Baldwin was reportedly holding the gun that discharged a bullet which fatally struck Hutchins in the chest before hitting director Joel Souza in the shoulder, who was standing behind her at the time.
The suit against Alec and Rust producers, filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles, claimed ‘reckless conduct and cost-cutting measures led to the death of Halyna Hutchins,’ noting Hutchins ‘would be alive and well, hugging her husband and 9-year-old son’ had proper protocols been followed on set.

The Hutchins’ family attorney, Brian Panish claimed Alec is in ‘complete denial’ of his role in her death and is ‘blaming others’ over the shooting which happened on Oct. 21 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Hutchins’ attorney told Fox News that Baldwin, 63, is ‘not accepting any responsibility’ for the cinematographer’s sudden death last year and noted that he ‘refused any gun safety training, number one.’
Panish added: ‘Number two, he pointed a gun at someone on a set. You don’t do that without plexiglass and other precautions. Number three, why were there bullets in the gun to begin with whether they were fake or real? It was only a lineup. There was no intention for him to shoot the weapon. He wasn’t supposed to shoot the weapon. Nobody expected him to do that, yet he recklessly fired the weapon while pointing it at three people, killed one and injured another.’
The Hutchins family is suing for punitive damages, funeral and burial expenses, among other damages to be determined.

Baldwin has said he was pointing the gun at Hutchins at her instruction and it went off without him pulling the trigger.
‘I didn´t pull the trigger,’ Baldwin said during an interview with ABC. ‘I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them. Never.’
The suit says industry standards call for using a rubber or similar prop gun during the setup, and there was no call for a real gun.
It also says that both Baldwin and assistant director David Halls, who handed him the gun, should have checked the revolver for live bullets.
The suit also names as defendants Halls, Walters, the film’s armorer Hannah Guttierez Reed, and ammunition supplier Seth Kenney.
‘Any claim that Alec was reckless is entirely false,’ Aaron Dyer, attorney for Baldwin and other producers, said in a statement Tuesday. ‘He, Halyna and the rest of the crew relied on the statement by the two professionals responsible for checking the gun that it was a ‘cold gun’ – meaning there is no possibility of a discharge.’
He added that ‘actors should be able to rely on armorers and prop department professionals, as well as assistant directors, rather than deciding on their own when a gun is safe to use.’
