The Someone Like You star justified scrapping her January residency at the eleventh hour but conceded that she had anxiety over a potential fan backlash.

Dazzling in a classy black dress, she remarked about calling off her shows: “It is the worst feeling I have ever had but the best decision I have ever made when it comes to my career – and I do stand by it all.”

Adele, 34, also added: “I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming back and seeing me tonight.

“I am truly sorry for any inconvenience I caused. It really is crazy. I am from Tottenham, north London.”

After belting out Hello and Easy On Me, with just a pianist on stage, the emotion and tears poured out.

Adele said: “I should be giving you a standing ovation. Thank you so much for coming back to me. You look amazing and it looks just how I imagined it would look like. It is perfect, thank you.”

Joking that she would be staying on stage with a “*****y face of make-up” from her tears, she said: “I am so scared, so nervous but I am so happy.”

There had also been fears that Adele might have had to let fans down again, after falling ill during rehearsals last week.

She became tearful several times and appeared overwhelmed at the more than 4,000 fans screaming and supporting her at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum venue on Friday.

She performed her two-hour set, supported by boyfriend Rich Paul, 40, Late Late Show host James Corden, 44, and Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos, 58. Fans said Adele’s son Angelo, 10, was also there, sitting close to her guests.

In a moving moment, Adele walked through the audience to kiss sports agent Paul, telling him: “I love you.”

She revealed long term Vegas headliner Celine Dion inspired her to perform at the Colosseum, as it was an intimate venue.

But apologies were Adele’s main focus, even after several standing ovations.

She also told fans she felt her close friend and radio DJ Nick Grimshaw’s autobiography resonated with her own astonishing career journey.

Adele said: “I read this book yesterday by my friend called Nick – and I wouldn’t say it is a memoir but basically a drunk memory. It was amazing.

“At the end he wanted to be a radio presenter and when he was little he said to his friend, ‘I don’t think that is going to happen. It is like being an astronaut or being like a footballer’. And the friend said, ‘Well, people are astronauts and footballers’.

“And it is really mad to be from Tottenham and be in ****ing Las Vegas.”

She added: “I’d also like to thank Caesars because there has been a lot of s*** written about me since I cancelled the shows. I am so honoured.”
