Abandoned ship turned into ‘zombie experience’ – where you must stop the virus

A ship which has been abandoned since the mid-1980s will be overrun with ‘zombies’ in the ultimate survival experience.

Guests will have to outsmart and outrun actors playing the walking dead on the Duke of Lancaster, which has been moored at Llanerch-y-Mor off the coast of Flintshire for 30 years.

Zombie Infection, the company running the event, takes over haunting and atmospheric locations across the UK to put on an ‘immersive’ three-hour theatre production.

The ‘show’ puts guests in the centre of an apocalypse and challenges them to stop the zombie virus and save humanity, the Daily Post reports .

Depending on your location, you’ll be given the option to upgrade weapons or add lasers and torches to help achieve your objectives.

Visitors will need intelligence, strength and speed to overcome escape rooms, puzzles, special infected bosses and challenging landscapes if they are going to ‘survive’.

It’s the first time in three decades that the public will be allowed on to the ship – but it’s strictly adults allowed.

The event description reads: "You’ll need to explore this huge haunted, abandoned ocean liner in the hope of stopping the virus and saving humanity."

So if you fancy outwitting some zombies, this sounds like the perfect night out for you.

Tickets are now available from the end of January 2019 onwards, costing £89.99 per person. Discounts are available for larger groups.

The Duke of Lancaster began life in 1956 and was used as a passenger ferry and cruise liner for 23 years.

In 1979 it was sold on to a Liverpool-based company and was towed to a spot along the Welsh coast.

But its owner, John Rowley claims to have spent more than 30 years unable to restore the ship due to legal frustrations.

Zombie Infection say they will "take good care" of the ship which has seen its "fair share of disappointment to date".

The two and a half hour experience will see thrill seekers exploring parts of the turbine steam ship in the hope of stopping a "virus".

Actors dressed as zombies will chase and challenge them in an experience which the company warns is not for the fainthearted.

A spokesman for Zombie Infection said: "Over the last few years, we have worked hard to build a strong and trustworthy relationship with the owners of the Duke of Lancaster ship.

"The impressive ocean liner has seen its fair share of disappointment to date, so it is with great pleasure that after safety and logistic improvements, a lot of paint, love and affection we are now able to bring this amazing venue to our international fan base in 2019 and hopefully beyond.

"We want to assure the local and national population that we will (in partnership with its owners) take good care of her and bring her well and truly back to her glory days.

"It is not only a wonderful place to visit but probably one of the greatest locations to do what we do.

"Already being the UK’s largest provide of premium immersive zombie experiences and after winning numerous awards for our events in 2018, this will only increase our portfolio further to deliver the very best value for money and the most exciting zombie entertainment events in the world."
