Scuse Me, but Lizzo Wore Her Hair in a 1960s-Inspired Beehive to the VMAs

Lizzo’s hairstyle went to new heights at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, as she walked onto the red carpet with a beehive hairstyle.

Shelby Niece, who styled the look, told POPSUGAR that it was inspired by two hair icons. “The inspiration for this look was a nod to a simple sultry elegance perfected by Brigitte Bardot with the chic and more modern cheeky vibe of the character Peg Bundy,” she said, referring to the character on ’90s sitcom All My Children.

The updo is a look that originated in the ’60s, and has been worn by countless celebrities on red carpets. Lizzo’s look was thanks to a wig by Dare to Have Hair, styled by Niece using a flexible hold hairspray — the Dove Style and Care Flexible Hold Hairspray — to maintain its structure and movement.
