Getting a tattoo is a big decision. After all, whatever design you decide on will be a part of your body for the rest of your life. Unless, that is, you regret it so badly that you no longer want to see it in the mirror every day.
Sometimes, this is simply because the tattoo no longer represents who you are as a person, or serves as a reminder of a time in your life that you’d rather forget. Other times, it’s due to a mistake on the part of the tattoo artist. For example, spelling mistakes do happen from time to time.
Laser tattoo removal is always a possibility. But there is also, of course, the option of covering up your old ink with a brand new, bigger, bolder tattoo. And this is the essential premise of the new Netflix reality show Tattoo Redo.
On the show, individuals with embarrassing tattoos (frequently the result of a lost bet, vacation dare or translation error) volunteer to get a cover-up on camera. The twist? They have no idea what they’re getting. Instead, the person who brought them into the studio, be they friend, lover, or family member, gets to choose the new design—and the person being tattooed isn’t allowed to see it until after it’s been done.
The artists on the show are well-respected figures in the world of tattooing, including Rose Hardy, Twig Sparks, Miryam Lumpini, Matt Beckerich and Tommy Montoya, who now get to showcase their talents on a much bigger platform. Below are some of their coolest, most impressive tattoo transformations from the first season of Tattoo Redo.
