Dear Mom Readers,
Do you ever feel like you’re perpetually running late? Like no matter how hard you try, you just cannot get out the door on time? Because there is inevitably a meltdown or a missing lunchbox or a terribly-timed diaper blowout. *Sigh*
Well just because Meghan Markle is the Duchess of Sussex, that doesn’t mean she is immune from these motherhood woes. She was scheduled to attend the Invictus Games — an adaptive sports competition for injured, sick, and wounded veterans and other service personnel worldwide —alongside her husband Prince Harry, but she was late because of regular ol’ mom duties.
“It is so special to be here, and I’m so sorry that I was a little late for the party. Just like so many of you, we know this is about family and friends and the community that Invictus has created, that Fischer House has created, and so I had to just spend a little bit more time getting our little ones settled home,” she said. “Getting milkshakes, doing school drop off, and then I just landed a couple of hours ago. I am thrilled that the first event that I can do with Invictus is here with all of you.”
Yes, Markle makes milkshakes (we are patiently awaiting her recipe!) and drops Prince Archie, 4 and Princess Lilibet, 2 off at school. The former senior member of the royal family is so down-to-earth, and this is proving to be a trend.
In April, she and her hubby threw their son a far-from-flashy fourth birthday party, according to a source who shared insights ahead of the big day. “It’s going to be a low-key party at home,” a source told PEOPLE. “They’ll have friends around them and Meghan’s mom, Doria [Ragland], [and his sister].”
And in July, the family of four made a super casual public appearance that proved they are just like the rest of us (and that the U.S. really is their home). And so it seems like Markle really would fit into a typical group of mom friends. Meg, whenever you want to trade the milkshakes for a glass of wine, you have an open invite to hang with the SheKnows squad!
